Armie Hammer’s name was trending on social media on Sunday as a series of graphic Instagram DMs he allegedly penned to a woman were leaked publicly, talking about cannibalism and other topics.

The actor’s direct messages were not verified, prompting skepticism from users who said it looked like a fake, according to a report from Just Jared. 

The Call Me By Your Name star, 34, had previously made headlines of a similar nature in 2017, after he liked a series of tweets dealing with bondage and comparable aspects of sex.

The latest leaked DMs, alleged to be from Armie’s Instagram account include graphic accounts of sex acts and cannibalism and the message: ‘I am 100% a cannibal.’

As Armie became a trending topic on Twitter, many debated the authenticity of the DMs. 

Dailymail.com has reached out to Hammer’s reps for comment on the story.

Hammer, best known for his acclaimed role in 2017’s Call Me By Your Name, has appeared in recent years in films including On the Basis of Sex, Sorry to Bother You and the upcoming Death on the Nile.

The star and estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers, 38, split this past July after 10 years of marriage; they are parents to two children, daughter Harper, six, and son Ford, three.

Late last month, he traveled to the Cayman Islands to reunite with his family, quarantining for the requisite 14-day period prior to reuniting with his children.  

The actor has been posting updates from his Cayman Islands trips in recent weeks, including a shirtless video of himself enjoying a drink on Christmas Eve.

He also shared a snap on the beach with friends and family as he rang in the New Year in the idyllic spot, adding that ‘as a New Years resolution I will not be posting pictures of my children for their safety and for their well-being.’

Armie quit Twitter in 2017 after a ‘bitter AF’ Buzzfeed article was written about him.

But the actor rejoined the social networking site in January 2018, joking alcohol may have had something to do with his decision.

‘They should put a blood alcohol measuring device on cell phones to keep you from drunkenly reactivating your Twitter…’ wrote The Social Network star.  

Within a day of reactivating, Hammer was already getting into online squabbles.

One user tagged the father-of-two in a tweet that claimed that Hammer’s ‘Oscar campaign crashed and burned’.

The California native retorted: ‘Your tweet got one like… doesn’t seem like you can do much of anything.’

Armie previously discussed quitting Twitter while speaking to Vulture in November 2017, after being embarrassed by a clip of him dancing in Call Me by Your Name went viral. 

‘Anytime I would open up my Twitter, it was just a ton of that,’ he said, ‘and I was like, ‘Nope, I can’t have my nose rubbed in this anymore. I’m out!”

In October Armie opened up about the restless early days of the coronavirus pandemic, and how he sought help.

The 34-year-old actor, chatting with British GQ’s Heroes series, said he was not in a good place earlier in the year amid international shutdowns in response to the spread of COVID-19.

‘I think like everyone else on the planet, I felt like the rug was ripped from under my feet,’ said the Santa Monica, California native. ‘And I felt like I could feel it happening in slow-motion, like the rug was just being ripped from my feet and I was falling face-first and I was gonna smash my face on the ground. 

‘I felt like I was in a state of like, free fall almost, like it was just, it was really difficult.’

The Call Me by Your Name leading man, who had spent the earlier part of the lockdown in the Cayman Islands, acknowledged his privileged lifestyle in saying his wealthy background did not diminish the mental anguish he was experiencing.

‘I know there are people that had it way harder than I did,’ he said, ‘but it’s all subjective, you can only deal with your own reality and mine was felt like it was falling apart.’

He added: That’s a really kind of scary place but at the same time it’s a place of change in change is the only universal constant. Change is scary, but at the same time, change always precipitates growth and it was the time to grow.’

The On the Basis of Sex actor said he felt the lockdown, which caused many to hunker down in their homes, presented either ‘a time to grow or a time to implode,’ and that ‘without paying attention,’ he ‘started down the path down completely imploding.’

Hammer said he’d let his ‘mental health lapse’ in ‘allowing [himself] to end up in positions or situations that [he] knew were detrimental.’

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. actor said change came in the form of a wake up call he had, and that he finally reached out for help.

‘I had a very intense wake up call one day and I realize that I needed more help than I realized,’ he said. ‘So I called a friend of mine, Brendan, who works in mental health and I was like, “Dude, it’s not good. It’s not good for me,” and he goes, “I know, it’s not good for anyone,” and I go, “Yeah, but really not good for me, like I’m having a really hard time. I don’t know what the answer to this is.”‘ 

Hammer said his friend ‘ended up getting [him] on the phone with a therapist who [he] started working with multiple times a week just to get me through sort of like the crisis aspect of what was going on.’
