As the World Turns star Kathryn Hays has died aged 88.
The soap star passed away on 25th March but no cause of death has been revealed.
The actress – who worked on the long- running show for 38 years from 1972 to 2010 – began her career the 60s with roles on shows such as Hawaiian Eye, Dr Kildare, Route 66, Bonanza and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

In 1966, Kathryn was cast as Elizabeth Reynolds in The Road West for 29 episodes.
In addition, she starred in the 1968 episode of Star Trek named The Empath as the titular character named, who went by Gem.
Throughout her career, Kathryn appeared in 40 different television series with her last being a 2007 episode of Law and Order: SUV.

Kathryn was born Kay Piper in Princeton, Illinois on July 26, 1933; She went to Northwestern University.
Her first acting role came in 1962 on the television show Hawaiian Eye, where she played Jean Morgan.
She went on to appear in Surfside 6 and Naked City that same year.
The actress played Elizabeth Reynolds Pride in the western series The Road West from 1966 until 1967; she played the character for 29 episodes – the entire running of the show.

She appeared in the Star Trek episode The Empath as Gem.
In 2010, Kathryn spoke about playing the now iconic role of Gem in the show: ‘I’ve often thought that was an interesting role for me to play. I loved playing that. It was technically very interesting,’ she said to We Love Soaps.
Adding: ‘That show was fascinating to work on from a technical point of view. It was so different from a regular show.’
She went on to appear in shows in the 1960s and early 70’s, including Bonanza, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Guiding Light and more.
In 1972, she was cast as Kim Sullivan Hughes on As The World Turns; her final episode as that character on September 17, 2010.

She also appeared in a 1999 episode of Law & Order and a 2007 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Kathryn appeared in four films: Ladybug Ladybug in 1963, Ride Beyond Vengeance in 1966, Counterpoint in 1968 and Yuma in 1971.
In one of her final screen appearances, she appeared in an episode of The Locher Room in May 2020, a series of YouTube episodes reuniting various soap actors.

In 1957, the actress tied the knot with Sidney Steinberg and welcomed a daughter named Sherri.
Following their divorce, Kathryn married Glenn Ford in 1966 but divorced three years later.
She later went on to marry Wolf Lieshke in 1984, splitting in 1986.

Her soap co-star Don Hasting paid tribute to their on-screen ‘relationship’ saying they were ‘like brother and sister’.
Don played her husband Bob Hughes on As The World Turns.
He said: ‘Our relationship as Bob and Kim [Hastings] was as close as Kathryn and my relationship, except we were not married. We were more like brother and sister and we were great friends.’
‘Our biggest squabble was that she always wanted to rehearse and I wanted to take a nap. This is a huge loss to all who knew her.’
The sometime Broadway star – who tread the boards in Showboat and Follies – is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sherri and Bob Mancusi, her three grandchildren Kate, Cameron and Garrett Wells and her great-grandson Jack.
