Avatar: The Way of Water continues to dominate box office bringing worldwide total to $1.379 billion… while Puss in Boots: The Last Wish makes big money in second weekend

Avatar: The Way of Water continued to dominate at the box office this weekend, according to Deadline.

The movie brought in $186.7 million from 52 international markets over the weekend. Its weekend performance brought the total up to $1.379 billion worldwide.

The highly-anticipated Avatar sequel officially passed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for 15th place on the all-time list. 

Doing well: Avatar: The Way of Water continued to dominate at the box office this weekend, according to Deadline

The movie made a huge jump in China over the weekend with a 42% jump from the previous weekend. 

The top three foreign markets for the movie are: China with $152.8 million, $95.1 million in France and $74.9 million in South Korea. 

While Avatar: The Way of Water is far and away the biggest movie of the season, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has done well over the past two weeks since coming out on Christmas.

Top markets: The top three foreign markets for the movie are: China with $152.8 million, $95.1 million in France and $74.9 million in South Korea

Another movie doing well: While Avatar: The Way of Water is far and away the biggest movie of the season, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has done well over the past two weeks since coming out on Christmas

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is available to watch in approximately 70 markets, has made $129.6 million globally. 

The movie’s biggest new market was Australia, where it made just over three million. It made close to two million in Central America and around $700,000 in Vietnam.   

France is one of the top markets globally for the film, having taken in over $12 million. 

Nine figures: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is available to watch in approximately 70 markets, has made $129.6 million globally

Performing well down under: The movie’s biggest new market was Australia, where it made just over three million. It made almost two million in Central America and around $700,000 in Vietnam

Making more cash: Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody made $13.1 million on the international market, doing well in the United Kingdom and Australia

The movie has not yet opened in Brazil, Mexico and Korea, all of which could be big markets for the film. 

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Violent Night and Lyle, Lyle Crocodile also made a few million to add to their already sizable global totals. 

Black Panther 2 is up to $818.5 million globally while Violent Night increased to $72.8 million and Lyle, Lyle Crocodile jumped up to $95.6 million.
