BAFTAs 2020: Al Pacino takes a tumble on red carpet

BAFTAs 2020: Al Pacino takes a tumble on red carpet before being helped up by girlfriend Meital Dohan, 40, as he arrives at the event

Al Pacino made quite the entrance at the BAFTAs on Sunday evening, as he tripped and took a tumble on the red carpet while arriving with his girlfriend Meital Dohan.

The screen star, 79, appeared to have lost his footing as he made his way up the steps into the Royal Albert Hall where the event was being held.

Meital appeared completely shocked as she watched the fall from beside him, before quickly helping him back up with a team of event staff.

Oops! Al Pacino made quite the entrance at the BAFTAs on Sunday evening, as he tripped and took a tumble on the red carpet while arriving with his girlfriend Meital Dohan

Pacino soon shrugged off his fall, as he posed inside the event in front of the branding board, lifting his arms in the air to show fans he was all good after his trip.

The Godfather actor looked seriously cool in a black and white polka dot suit with a black tie, layered with a navy overcoat and styled with a pair of quirky shades.

Meanwhile, Meital Dohan looked lovely in a black and orange contrasting print dress, which featured a plunging neckline and slit up the leg.

Poor thing! The screen star, 79, appeared to have lost his footing as he made his way up the steps into the Royal Albert Hall where the event was being held

Shock: Meital appeared completely shocked as she watched the fall from beside him, before quickly helping him back up with a team of event staff

Up you come! Pacino was helped back on his feet by two members of the security team

She teamed the ensemble with a pair of black opaque tights and leather knee-high boots, offering her already statuesque frame some added inches in height.

The Argentinian actress wore her raven tresses sleeked back into a chic plaited ponytail, while opting for a glamorous slick of make-up in bronze tones.

Pacino has been nominated for the Supporting Actor gong for his role as Jimmy Hoffa in gangster flick The Irishman.

Easy does it: He soon made his way back up the stairs following the stumble

In the Supporting Actor category, Pacino is up against Brad Pitt, who is hotly-tipped to win for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood after having similar success to Joaquin, but will go up against Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood), Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes) and Joe Pesci (The Irishman).

Joker is this year’s Best Film frontrunner with a whopping 11 nominations, while The Irishman and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood are close behind with 10 nods each.

If the BAFTAs follow the same path as the Golden Globes, it will be a good night for Mendes’ World War I movie, 1917, as that scooped both Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director at the Hollywood ceremony.

No worries! Pacino soon shrugged off his fall, as he posed inside the event in front of the branding board, lifting his arms in the air to show fans he was all good after his trip

What can you do! Pacino put on a playful display once inside the event
