Barbra Streisand shares photo of her beloved pooches posing at the grave of the singer’s late dog they were cloned from
Barbra Streisand shared an Instagram photo Wednesday of her dogs Miss Violet, Miss Scarlett and Miss Fanny.
The 77-year-old had gathered her pets at the grave of her late Coton de Tulear Samantha, from whom Violet and Scarlett were cloned.
Meanwhile, Miss Fanny was adopted from the same breeder who sold Samantha to Barbra, the Oscar-winner wrote in the New York Times last year.
Her darlings: Barbra Streisand shared an Instagram photo Wednesday of her dogs Miss Violet, Miss Scarlett and Miss Fanny
‘The twins Scarlet and Violet honoring their mom (with cousin Fanny in the center!),’ Barbra wrote in the caption of her Wednesday Instagram snap.
In her New York Times piece entitled Why I Cloned My Dog, she dished: ‘I was so devastated by the loss of my dear Samantha, after 14 years together, that I just wanted to keep her with me in some way. It was easier to let Sammie go if I knew I could keep some part of her alive, something that came from her DNA.’
Her non-clone dog was named after the legendary vaudeville entertainer Fanny Brice, whom Barbra won an Oscar for playing in the 1968 film Funny Girl.
Barbra had played Fanny in the original Broadway cast of the 1964 musical on which the movie was based – and it was during this run that she got her first-ever pooch.

As she wrote in the New York Times, that dog was ‘given to me by the cast of Funny Girl on my 22nd birthday’ and was called Sadie.
The inspiration for the name is the song Sadie, Sadie from Funny Girl, in which Fanny crows about the joys of being a ‘married lady.’
Barbra has long drawn attention for her devotion to her dogs, such as her beloved Sammy, who had to be euthanized at the age of nine while suffering from cancer.
During a 2003 appearance on on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Barbra sang the Charlie Chaplin song Smile to a montage of photos of Sammy.
Barbra told Oprah that ‘I held him in my arms when we put him to sleep, and we had a ceremony with candles and flowers and music, and it was just – I haven’t cried like this, I don’t know since when, I can’t remember – being a child, maybe.’
Kathy Griffin famously sent up this chat-show appearance during a bit included in her 2005 stand-up special Kathy Griffin Is… Not Nicole Kidman.
