“An OCME autopsy was not performed in this case due to a religious objection, upheld by law in such instances where no criminality is suspected,” Chief Medical Examiner Barbara Sampson said.
As Radar previously reported, Shields was found dead of a suspected overdose on August 10. He was 51.

The New York Post reported he overdosed on prescription pills, and an assistant attempted to revive him with Narcan, which is used to revive patients under the influence of opiates.
The medical examiner’s office immediately began investigating the death. But it appears any investigation has been called off.
