Bill Bailey: Strictly star fears he could ‘lose a kneecap’ after struggling in rehearsals

Strictly: Bill Bailey’s son sends message after performance

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 favourite Bill Bailey, 55, has opened up about the risks of dancing the sultry Argentine Tango ahead of tomorrow’s live quarter-finals. The comedian is set to perform his and partner Oti Mabuse’s routine to the dramatic theme tune from The Phantom Of The Opera for Musicals Week.

Bill recently gave an insight into how the couple’s rehearsals have been going and admitted worrying he could “lose a kneecap” with “one wrong step”.

The star also revealed the dance could easily go wrong, as it demands “perfect sync” between the pair.

He also faced a wardrobe issue in training, as his Phantom mask kept slipping.

Bill explained there is a “peculiar sharp kick in this dance where the leg is flicked at an angle between the legs of your partner”.

The funnyman then added: “But for safety’s sake you have to be in perfect sync and make sure you have your legs apart because if you’re in the wrong place, you might end up getting thwacked!

“One wrong step and you might lose a kneecap.

“I myself experienced this pain during training although it wasn’t entirely my fault. Well, that’s my excuse anyway,” Bill quipped following the mishap.

The Strictly star went on to share his hopes that his Phantom mask will be alright on the night after rehearsing with a “flimsy one from a fancy dress shop”.

He continued: “The main problem with the mask is that it’s only held on by a thin strand of elastic.”

Bill admitted if it slips, he will be left “dancing while looking out of one eye”.

The television personality added to the Daily Star: “I have to tell you, this Tango is hard enough without your sense of perception being compromised.”

Fortunately for Bill, the mask he wears on the BBC show will be silicon-moulded in order to fit his face perfectly.

Elsewhere, the star took the opportunity to thank his wife for ensuring that he and Oti have good meals to keep them going during training.

During an appearance on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two yesterday, host Rylan Clark-Neal said: “Your lovely wife has been cooking for the pair of you.

“Some of the supplies being Japanese Burgers, a Chicken, Chilli and Tortilla Soup and Coriander Marinated Grilled Salmon.”

“We’ve got to thank Kris [Bailey] because she is working very hard,” the presenter added, before telling the comedian his spouse had left him something in a gold box.

Rylan then reached down to the side of the sofa to retrieve the item, which was a meal for Bill and Oti to enjoy after rehearsing all day.

Oti also showed her appreciation for the delicious meals that Bill’s other half has prepared.

The professional dancer shared a snap of one of Kris’ food creations in view of her 148,800 Twitter followers last week.

Oti wrote alongside the mouth-watering photo: “Everyday Mrs Bailey makes us lunch and dinner.”

“Living alone at the moment and training all day this is the only way I get a home-cooked meal. What a queen. Adore her @BillBailey,” she continued.
