Britney Spears may have called off Vegas residency over ‘soft’ ticket sales

Britney Spears’ team announced in January that she was calling off her Vegas residency because of her father’s serious illness. But there may be more to the story.

Sources tell Page Six that — while dad Jamie’s ruptured colon was certainly a concern — the singer was also dealing with disappointing ticket sales for her Domination show. “A lot of people rely on Britney, so they wanted to milk every cent from this deal,” said a source. “Ticket sales were very soft. The tickets were priced so high.”

The Blast reports that her camp used Jamie’s illness “as a smoke screen to distract people from the downward spiral the singer was experiencing and the fact that she ‘just could not do’ the residency.” (A source close to the star denied both that ticket sales were a problem and the Blast’s report.)

Meanwhile, after Spears was spotted in Beverly Hills over the weekend, many assumed that she’d been released from the mental health facility that she checked into early this month. But sources close to the star told Page Six that she had been out only on “a day trip” with boyfriend Sam Asghari.
