Rapper Cardi B is set to open the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall on August 20. It will be Cardi’s first performance since giving birth to her daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus on July 10.
“WANNA PARTY WITH CARDI? @iamcardib will open the #VMAs. You don’t wanna miss this. August 20th at 9p on @MTV,” the Video Music Awards tweeted on Thursday.
Cardi leads with 10 nominations at the 2018 VMAs including Video, Song, and Artist of the Year, while JAY-Z and Beyoncé follow behind with eight noms, and Drake and Childish Gambino each picked up 7.
Cardi will perform along with previously announced performers Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Logic, Shawn Mendes, and Jennifer Lopez, who will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The 2018 MTV VMAs will air Monday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
Last month, Cardi B pulled out of her scheduled tour with Bruno Mars.
“I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that 6 weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically,” she had wrote on Instagram at that time.
“I also thought that I’d be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing. Not only am I just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road,” she said.
