Carrie Underwood didn’t seem to find the humor in Luke Bryan’s wise crack about Aaron Rodgers’ COVID-19 vaccine status during the CMAs on Wednesday.

Bryan, who hosted the show, didn’t name Rodgers directly but joked about confusion over being ‘immunized’ in a thinly veiled dig at the football star’s recently controversy over failing to abide by NFL health mandates.

While most of the audience laughed, Carrie Underwood barely cracked a smile and opted for some severe side-eye.

‘We’re following all the health protocols to keep everyone safe and it is so great to be here with all my fellow artists, tested and together. Or immunized? Who is it? Just playing,’ he quipped from the stage.

The barb was an obvious reference to Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers who is not allowed to play after it was revealed he tested positive for COVID and is unvaccinated despite previously saying he had been ‘immunized’. 

The cameras panned to Underwood in the audience who wore a sour expression and gave Bryan side-eye.

This isn’t the first time Underwood has subtly taken a side on COVID-19 mandates. Several months ago she was slammed on social media for liking a Tweet opposing mask mandates for children.

Plus, just last week, Carrie Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher, posted an ‘I stand with Aaron Rodgers’ Instagram in support of the football player – which Carrie liked on the platform. 

‘I stand with @aaronrodgers12 I believe in the freedom to choose what we put in our bodies and the freedom of conscience,’ he wrote in a rambling caption.

‘I agree with him in that the science clearly shows the vaccinated spread covid at basically the same rate as the unvaccinated,’ he continued, despite the scientific evidence proving otherwise. 

He went on to share more about his anti-vaccine stance calling it ‘control over our lives.’

In August, Rodgers chose his words carefully when speaking about the vaccine at training camp. Instead of saying he was ‘vaccinated,’ Rodgers said he was ‘immunized,’ which some presumed to mean that he had received the injection.

However, Rodgers may have meant that he had COVID-19 antibodies from a previous infection. It was later revealed he had not been vaccinated.

He was placed on the NFL’s COVID-19/reserve list last week and was forced to sit out Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which the high-scoring Packers ended up losing 13-7.

Rodgers has maintained that he is not ‘anti-vax’ in general but that it wasn’t the right decision for him, adding how he believes he is in the ‘crosshairs of the woke mob right now.’

He has also said he had declared himself to be ‘immunized’ at the press conference because he had undergone alternative treatment to raise his immunity in the hope that the NFL would consider him vaccinated, but was ultimately unsuccessful. 

Rodgers has since tested positive for COVID admitted that he was using the anti-parasite drug Ivermectin to treat his COVID infection on the advise of podcaster Joe Rogan.

He must remain symptom-free, return two negative tests and then be approved for action by an independent doctor. 

Rodgers is likely to face fines but not suspension if he is found to have violated COVID protocols as the NFL continues their investigation.
