Charlotte Church reveals ‘zen’ forest birth was disrupted by ‘golfers’

Charlotte Church has revealed how the “zen” forest birth of her third child was interrupted by nearby golfers.

The Crazy Chick singer appeared on Loose Women on Wednesday, where she talked openly about the less-than-ideal birth of her daughter Freda, now two.

Charlotte, 36, welcomed the baby with her husband, Jonathan Powell. The star also has two kids, Ruby and Dexter, with her ex Gavin Henson.

The singer had initially planned to give birth in a pool in a forest that was surrounded by candles and the sounds of nature.

But disaster struck on the day when awful weather and loud golfers interrupted the serene setting she had carefully planned.

She explained: “I laboured overnight amongst the trees, it was gorgeous in late August.

“It looked like a Baz Luhrmann film set. There were candles everywhere and loads of my friends had made bunting.

“Then it started drizzling in the morning. I live near a golf course and I could hear the golfers starting, and I started to get vocal myself. So I went into house and had her on the bathroom floor!”

Charlotte previously touched on the dramatic birth while appearing on Jamie Winstone’s Greatest Night Ever podcast.

“I ended up screaming my t*** off on the bathroom,” she said.

“The last time I gave birth I tried to do it in a forest setting, but ended up screaming on a bathroom floor.”

“I had it all planned out, it was so beautiful, I had the birth pool outside amongst the trees, had this cute bunting that my friends had made for me. And then cut to me on the floor, on all fours, screaming my t*** off,” she added.

“So yeah not quite the super-duper holistic, organic and zen birth I planned.”

While appearing on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecombe’s Parenting Hell podcast in 2021, Charlotte said she was “overconfident” about her third birth after fairly simple experiences with her first two kids.

She joked: “I did love birth, but my third birth came and b***h slapped me in the face. I was so unbelievably overconfident, because the first two times, I was 21 and 22, and my body knew just what to do.”

Charlotte recently launched her own wellness retreat, The Dreaming, which is at the former £1.5 million home of designer Laura Ashley.

Located in Elan Valley, Wales, the retreat features a vagina-shaped shower and its very own “womb room” and promises a relaxing retreat for £300 a night.

Guests help with the cooking and growing vegetables while enjoying activities like mythic storytelling, cold water immersion, dawn singing, silent discos and nighttime forest bathing.
