Cheryl reveals she ‘irrationally’ feared her son Bear, two, was going to be swapped for another baby in the hospital after she gave birth

Cheryl has revealed that she worried her two-year-old son Bear would be swapped for another baby in the hospital after she gave birth to him.

The singer, 36, who shares her little boy with ex Liam Payne, said that she felt ‘irrational’ and wouldn’t let doctors take him out of her sight.

During a chat on on Ru Paul and Michelle Visage’s podcast What’s The Tea, Cheryl detailed why she felt that Bear might be taken away from her.

She candidly revealed: “When I had him, first of all I wouldn’t let the doctors take him out of the room. I read this story about two girls being swapped at birth and it was playing on my mind. I was so irrational…I didn’t want anyone to take him.’

Cheryl and Liam made their first public appearance as a couple in May 2016 before appearing to confirm their pregnancy during a night out six months later.

The former Girls Aloud star stepped out at the time wearing a form-fitting khaki dress which showcased her blossoming baby bump.

However after two and a half years together the pair announced their split, but vowed to remain close while they raise their son in a ‘loving family’.

Cheryl’s admission comes shortly after Liam spoke sweetly about his ex-girlfriend, revealing she is still the most important person in his life, despite their split.

He confessed he didn’t understand her feelings during their romance and admitted becoming a father, aged 23, ‘messed him up’ as he feared he ‘wouldn’t be enough.’

According to heat, the 26-year-old made the admission during his upcoming documentary, Ant Middleton and Liam Payne: Straight Talking, in which they travelled to Namibia together.

He said of his son Bear, now two: ‘Becoming a dad at such a young age, it’s such a difficult thing.

‘And I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me up to start with. I started in a bad place with it.

‘I think it spooked me out early on, and I was just worried I would not be enough to look after the both of them. They’re so important to me — Cheryl as well.

He told Ant Middleton: ‘The one thing I was missing as a man in the relationship I had, was a level understanding about what she was feeling about stuff’

‘She’s one of the most, if not the most, important people in my life. I’m lucky I have someone who understands what I’m going through.

He continued: ‘The one thing I was missing as a man in the relationship I had, was a level understanding about what she was feeling about stuff.

‘I think I learnt through away being that, while I want to protect her, there’s a big part of her that wants to protect me.’

During the frank conversation he joked that he and Cheryl could get back together if she ‘plays her cards right’ but said he’d be in trouble for saying so.

Liam is now dating Texan model Maya Henry, 19, and the pair are regularly seen out at events together.
