Cheryl reveals she’s set to collaborate with rapper Wiley as she teases her upcoming album will feature a ‘big upbeat production’

She’s released hit singles Love Made Me Do It and Let You in the past year following a four-year hiatus from the music industry.

And Cheryl has revealed she’s set to collaborate with rapper Wiley on her hotly-anticipated fifth album in the coming weeks, and teased her record will feature a ‘big upbeat production’.  

The Fight For This Love hitmaker, 36, is heading back to the studio to team up with the 40-year-old grime star, but has told fans she is not making any ‘promises’ about what material the pair might come up with.

Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl has previously paired up with the likes of Joel Compass and Tinie Tempah, and will now dabble in the genre of grime with the Wearing My Rolex rapper, 40.

She told Gay Times Magazine: ‘I’m back in the studio next week, so I’m going to be doing some more writing, I’m going to go into the studio with Wiley.

‘There’s no promises, I’m just going to go in for a few days. You never know what’s going to come out.

‘Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But there’s no pressure which is nice – I prefer to write that way.’

The lyrical genius – commonly known as the Godfather of Grime – is widely recognised as a pioneer in the music genre, and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 New Year Honours. 

The former X Factor judge added she’s hoping to create some more pop tracks that people can sing along to, and wants to include plenty of dance steps.

She explained: ‘Always upbeat with a big production. The more dance steps I can get in there, the happier I am – and the more people can sing along. I just want everybody to enjoy it at this point.’

Adhering to a busy schedule, Cheryl is set to become a guest judge on the first ever series of Drag Race UK, and has returned as a dance captain on the second edition of The Greatest Dancer.

The Throwback musician took to Instagram and Twitter last month to reveal the news and share her delight with a photo of herself clad in a luminous ensemble.

The official Twitter account for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK also shared her new role as they declared Cheryl ‘the Queen of Newcastle’ alongside a snap of the star pouting in front of her dressing room. 

Cheryl wrote: ‘I am SO excited to tell you that I will be a guest judge on the first ever series of UK Drag Race !!!!!

‘I am such a huge fan of the show and can not wait to watch our UK queens make their mark!

‘Coming soon to @bbcthree .. Gentlemen Start your engines and may the best woman win @dragraceukbbc #dragraceuk.’ 

Meanwhile, The Greatest Dancer returns for a second run in early 2020 and will see Cheryl, Matthew Morrison and Oti Mabuse return as judges, alongside newcomer Todrick Hall.
