- But, after receiving a slew of negative comments, Christie was quick to hit back
- The former supermodel has been very outspoken about ageism in recent years
Christie Brinkley has clapped back at the ‘wrinkle brigade’ who left a slew of negative comments on social media about her looks.
The former model, 69, took to Instagram on Wednesday with a stunning selfie – but soon came under fire from online trolls.
She was unfazed, however, and was quick to hit back with a stinging response that read: ‘It must be some form of compensation for some thing they are lacking.’
Christie has been very outspoken about ageism in recent years, previously arguing: ‘I think that ageism is one of the last frontiers in America yet to be broken.’

Christie shared the striking snap last week as she gazed toward the camera from the backseat of a car.
But she was met with a barrage of abuse from users who cruelly asked ‘what happened to aging gracefully?!’ – as well as making bizarre references to her having a hairy chest.
In light of the hurtful comments, the star edited the caption to read: ‘Update: Whoa Nelly! The Wrinkle Brigade is out in full force in the comment thread!
‘They are the people that scan celebrities pages, hoping to find some cellulite, wrinkles, or anything that they can point to to to critique. It must be some form of compensation for some thing they are lacking.’
She continued: ‘But when those people appear, there are others who pop up with messages so kind and valuable.
‘Those are the comments that restore my faith and make my heart sing! Thank you sweet souls.
‘PS I don’t have hair on my chest obviously (I thought!) I phone has a tendency to create weird things in the shadow. But so what if I did? Have a great day My Friends!’
And, in a bid to shrug off the comments even further, she posted another beaming selfie the very next day.

Christie (pictured in May) has often spoken out against ageism – and has frequently championed embracing aging and loving yourself fully through all stages of your life
This time, dozens of fans were quick to flood the post with positivity, writing: ‘You do you and ignore the patently jealous people making comments that are unkind and reflect such insecurity.’
Another jokingly added: ‘If Christie has wrinkles – then I want the same wrinkles. Where do I sign up? She is stunning!’
A third commented: ‘Gorgeous lady!!! Don’t let the ignorant comments of anyone get you down! You look stunning!’

She believes that older women need to focus on their bucket lists instead, having previously told Women’s Day: ‘I think that ageism is one of the last frontiers in America yet to be broken.’
Christie assertively continued: ‘There’s a prevailing attitude that comes along with each number. Women start to feel like they need to make their lives smaller because of the number — and it’s the opposite.
‘You’ve got to grab it all. You’ve got to bucket list and you’ve got to live.’
The former supermodel said she recently felt inspired by Martha Stewart’s now infamous Sports Illustrated cover at 80 years old.
Christie called her inspiration ‘fabulous,’ and believes that Martha is changing the perception of a woman being 80. She argued that everyone who saw that cover would want to embody that same confidence when they’re older.
When she turned 69, she posted a picture of her magazine covers through the decades and wrote ‘happy 69’
She wrote in her Instagram caption for her 69 birthday : ‘Go ahead proclaim your age, celebrate the years! Make those numbers your b****! You got this! We got this’
As a former Sports Illustrated cover girl herself, Christie believes: ‘It would be nice to have the magazines more populated with older women — not just the occasional [cover].
‘I think women my age want to see more of what looks great. I think there’s a lot missing in that area for women my age.’
In February, when she turned 69 years old, Christie wrote in her Instagram caption: ‘Go ahead proclaim your age, celebrate the years! Make those numbers your b****! You got this! We got this!’
‘I’m 69 and I feel GRATEFUL! I’ve learned that gratitude, health and love are the keys to happiness. I feel like the number doesn’t match my spirit, so I may as well just keep spiriting on.’
And now, as she approaches her 70 birthday, she argues that she feels ‘the same way’ that she felt when she was turning 30 years old, and that she’s feeling ‘good’ and ‘strong.’
Christie affirmed that as she reaches each milestone, she keeps getting pleasantly surprised that she doesn’t feel the way she thought she was ‘supposed to feel at that age.’
She told People: ‘I feel like the number doesn’t match my spirit, so I may as well just keep spiriting on.’
Christie has no shame in talking about her age but has also said that she does not want the number to be her top and constant priority. She previously stated: ‘I don’t believe that focusing on age is going to make you feel any better about it.’
As for her youthful mindset, she explained: ‘I think curiosity in the world around you and just wanting to do something with each day, that is what keeps you young and going.’
