Strictly Come Dancing 2020 stars Clara Amfo, 36, and Aljaž Škorjanec, 31, have been entertaining the nation with their energetic dance routines this series, but the BBC Radio One presenter admitted it had been hard work behind the scenes. The DJ said her “strict” dance partner Aljaž refuses to leave the room unless their routine is perfect.

He will never leave the room until I get it perfect.

She revealed: “Aljaž is the best ever.

“He’s really fun, but strict in the sense that he will never leave the room until I get it perfect.

“If there’s an eight count of something, and I do it correctly at seven, he’ll go, ‘No, start again’.

“He’s a perfectionist because he wants me to do well,” she added to Closer Magazine. “It’s all done with love!”

Last night, the dancing duo performed an energetic Jive routine, which scored them 19 points out of a potential 30.

After the performance, judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood praised her for her efforts but pointed out mistakes she had made.

When asked how she was feeling about their critique by Claudia Winkleman, she replied: “I don’t know, you know what, we’re all kind of processing how we deal with this process.

“No word of a lie, rehearsal today I got all my steps in, but I think adrenaline got me.”

Last week, the radio presenter didn’t get the comments she had hoped for after performing a Samba routine.

Shirley said the dance was her “weakest performance so far” and her feet “missed the mark”.

Despite the criticism, Clara and her Strictly pro made it through to another week on the show.

Taking to Instagram after they got through, Aljaž admitted it had been a “scary weekend”.

Alongside a picture of the dancing duo, he wrote: “Bring on week 6. So grateful to be here dancing with my beautiful @claraamfo for another week.

“Thank you so much to everyone that voted. It was a bit of a scary weekend but we got thru thanks to you.(sic)

“Can’t wait to start tomorrow and to come back with a fire in our flicks.”

The dancing duo were also asked about their Samba routine on Strictly’s spin-off show It Takes Two.

Asked whether the Samba was just not Clara’s dance, he replied: “Samba is a carnival dance.

“You have got to go out there and you have got to go crazy.

“I feel the technique was there. Yes, there were a couple of mistakes but I would rather you went out there and you gave it your absolute best, and we did that.

“No dance on Strictly has ever been perfect in 17 years. There hasn’t been one dance where everything has gone by the plan.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.25pm on BBC One.
