MOUNT Pleasant star James Burrows has joined Coronation Street to play Michelle Connor's son Alex Neeson.
The Sun Online can reveal that the actor – who played Denty in the Sky comedy series – has already begun filming in the role after previously impressing with roles in BBC One thriller Prey, Safe House and Love, Lies and Records.
Restaurant manager Michelle – who is played by actress Kym Marsh in the ITV soap – will be left shocked when her biological son Alex turns up in Weatherfield.
Ten years ago Michelle went through hell when she discovered the son she raised, Ryan, wasn’t actually her biological son after a mix-up at the hospital.
Alex and his parents later turned up and Alex moved in with Michelle before quickly leaving and rarely being heard from again.
However the reunion won’t be a happy one as Alex seems intent to not let Michelle into his life.
Alex, who now goes by the name Ali, will return after he lands a job at the medical centre and will return to the cobbles for the first time since 2008.
But he won't tell his mother.
A source said: "Ali settles himself in Weatherfield and seems happy to make friends with everyone else but gives his mum the cold shoulder.
However, Alex will have an "ulterior motive" for his return which doesn't bode well for Michelle.
Ryan meanwhile is in Ibiza working as a DJ after leaving Weatherfield under a cloud in 2013.
Since Ryan left Michelle has been put through hell with a horrific late-term miscarriage, losing her son Ruairi at 23 weeks into her pregnancy.
She later discovered husband Steve McDonald had had a one night stand with Leanne Battersby when they were on a break, resulting in a son named Oliver, and she was later stalked and kidnapped by former flame Will.
Now she is facing financial troubles after boyfriend Robert Preston began gambling after his stint in prison, and she faces supporting him as he battles testicular cancer.
Can Michelle take much more heartbreak?
