Following her shock kidnap, Coronation Street's Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) is in big trouble next week as she finds herself locked in a cold dark cellar and held to ransom.
Help does eventually arrive when her guardian Gary Windass (Mikey North) tracks her down and charges in. A violent showdown ensues, which quickly turns deadly.
Actress Millie Gibson, who plays Kelly, has exclusively revealed the secrets of the dramatic fight sequences, and confesses her one fear filming the thrilling scenes.
Mille spent several days filming on the cellar set, a lot of which was dedicated to the fight sequence, which viewers can see on Wednesday 20 July.
“I thought we were going to be in a grim real cellar, but they built a great set – it was really creepy, which helped with the atmosphere for filming the scenes,” says the actress, who turned 18 earlier this year.
She continues: “It’s actually the same set that they used as Kelly’s mum’s house, but they completely redid it to make it this amazing cellar.”
She added: “The fight sequence was amazing. It was all rehearsed like a dance and I can’t wait to see it. It’s insane what Mikey and Pat (Lally, who plays Kieron the kidnapper) do, it really is incredible. Your heart will be in your mouth over who’s going to win.’
The actress reveals that she had her own part to play in the battle – and was worried about messing up the boys’ efforts
“At the end I have to come in and hit the kidnapper over the head with a crowbar," she explains.
She adds: “It was really nerve-wracking as after they do this whole huge fight scene, and I was worried I’d come in and muck it all up! If I got my little pivotal moment wrong, they’d be fuming!”
Millie’s fears didn’t put her off – in fact, she’d be up for more action scenes on the show:
“I loved watching how the fight arranger planned it all out,” she says. “I’d love to do more – I’d be well up for that!”
The fight is a pivotal moment in Kelly’s story. It’s the first time she sees the murderous side of Gary.
Kelly doesn’t know that Gary is responsible for the death of her dad, Rick. She’s shocked by how far he’s prepared to go with Kieron, but will Kelly now will connect Gary to Rick’s demise?
For Millie, meanwhile, seeing Gary's actions had the opposite effect.
“I had been filming in the cellar and I hadn’t seen Mikey all week,” she explains. “So, when he burst in to save Kelly, it was so it was great to see his friendly face!”
Coronation Street screens Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV at 8pm.
