Dan Walker says his body is ‘still aching’ but has managed to eat his first solid food in health update after he was hit by car while cycling in horror crash

Dan Walker says his body is ‘still aching’ but he has managed to eat his first solid food since his near-fatal accident.
The Channel 5 news anchor, 45, was hit by a car while on his bike in Sheffield in a horror crash on Monday morning and sustained nasty injuries but was ‘glad to be alive’.
Dan was knocked out cold for 20 minutes as emergency services scrambled to arrive to the junction of Moore Street and Hanover Way, where the roundabout is a notorious accident black spot.
The presenter has since revealed his dog Winnie has been looking after him and he has ordered a new helmet after crediting his last for saving his life.
He wrote on Twitter on Thursday: ‘Winnie hasn’t left my side this week She’s the best.

Richard Curtis also sent him a get well soon message while poking fun of his red nose – saying he would have been better buying a Red Nose for Comic Relief.
Seeing the funny side, Dan Tweeted: ‘I’ve had some lovely messages this week. Enjoyed this one from Richard Curtis’.
It comes after the former BBC Breakfast presenter admitted his helmet had saved his life.
The star also told how he couldn’t sleep after being pumped full of painkillers.

Earlier this week, he wrote on his Instagram Stories: ‘Can’t sleep… too many drugs I think.
‘Just reading through some of the 1000s of messages today. Thank you so much. It’s so kind of you all.
‘If my eyes weren’t so swollen I might have a little cry (sic)’
Dan was left battered and bruised with a bloodied face following the incident, and he was fortunate to avoid any broken bones.

Dan Walker has no memory of the crash and thanked his helmet for saving his life.
South Yorkshire Police, who are investigating the crash, said that no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
He wrote on Instagram hours after the incident: ‘Bit of an accident this morning.
Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene.
‘This is my smiling Thankful for our NHS (sic)’.
He also Tweeted a selfie of his swollen face and bloodied shirt from the back of an ambulance.
He later wrote on social media: ‘I think I got hit by a car but was out cold for about 20 minutes. I have no memory of it.
‘I can’t believe I haven’t broken anything or that it is so much worse. I came round on the tarmac with paramedics and police standing over me. I’m very thankful to still be here and just have a beast of a headache.’
Dan hosted BBC Breakfast from 2016 and took part in the 2021 series of Strictly Come Dancing, revealing he signed up for the show to do something ‘fun’ and have a ‘giggle’ after reporting on difficult news stories during the pandemic.
He also hosted Football Focus for 12 years, along with regular appearances on Match of the Day, the Grand National, Royal Ascot and the NFL Show.
Last year he replaced Sian Williams as the lead anchor for 5 News after she announced she was stepping down in April last year.
