David Beckham is starstruck after he ‘finally’ gets to meet Mary Poppins as the footballer goes backstage at the popular West End show

David Beckham was starstruck after he got to meet Mary Poppins herself as he enjoyed an evening watching the musical at the Prince Edward Theatre in London.

The former footballer, 44, shared a snap to Instagram alongside actress Zizi Strallen while she was dressed in character as the famous nanny.

Alongside the photo, David wrote: ‘Finally got to meet the lovely Mary Poppins tonight lucky me. Amazing show and magical performance from everyone WOW @marypoppinsmusical.’

Zizi, 29, looked the part for the snap, dressed in a purple coat with a white striped shirt and a bright red bow tie.

She also sported Mary Poppins’ famous black hat with her brunette locks styled into an updo.  

Zizi was clearly just as starstruck to meet David as she also posted a snap of the pair together to her Instagram Stories alongside actor Charlie Stemp who plays Bert.

The trio were all smiles in the snap, taken backstage, with the actress captioning it with a simple: ‘Yep…’

David also took a picture with the entire cast of the West End production and wrote: ‘What a magical show. Everything about Mary Poppins the musical was perfect’. 

The sports star’s post comes shortly after it was revealed he is the highest earning British star on Instagram for a second year. 

David can reportedly make up to £286,000 for posting a single sponsored image, and has already uploaded 30 this year, totalling £8.6 million.

The staggering amount is an increase on his earnings from last year, when the star reportedly commanded £228,000 per post.

Data from Buzz Bingo, places David the top-ranking British star, and at number 17 globally on their annual Instagram ‘rich list’.

The company hails the footballer the highest paid British star, followed by fellow footballer player Gareth Bale in 21st, who can reportedly make up to £166,000 for his posts.

Among David’s 30 sponsored posts this year were adverts for wristwatches company Tudor Watch and menswear brand, Kent & Curwen.

For the second year in a row, ‘self-made’ billionaire Kylie Jenner took the top spot, able to command just shy of a million for her sponsored posts at £963,388.

Rounding out the top three were Ariana Grande, who can allegedly command £757,926 per snap, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who can make £741,945.

The reports come after it was revealed profits from David’s company DB Ventures halved over the span of a year, from £23.2 million in 2017 to £11.5 million in 2018.

Meanwhile, wife Victoria’s fashion business has plunged almost £36 million into the red after making losses of £12.5 million last year.

Despite this, the British power couple still managed to rank 372 on this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

The couple boast combined wealth of some £355 million and were named among Britain’s 50 biggest taxpayers in The Sunday Times Tax List.

David has endorsement arrangements with brands including Pepsi, Samsung, H&M, Haig whisky and Adidas which give him a cut of rising sales.
