Disney Is Working On A Live-Action "Snow White" Film

You’re probably asking yourself, “Didn’t they already make a live-action Snow White?” And I would assume you’re probably thinking of Snow White and the Hunstman, or Mirror Mirror. But to answer your question, neither of those were made by Disney. Despite the fact that there’s obviously already plenty of live-action films about Snow White floating around out there, Variety says Disney is currently making plans for another one.

Disney, clearly drunk off the millions they make whenever they give one of their animated films the live-action CGI treatment, has reportedly already picked a director. They’re “in talks” with Marc Webb, who directed 500 Days of Summer and the Andrew Garfield Spider-Mans. The movie will allegedly be written by Erin Cressida Wilson, who wrote The Girl on the Train. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (who did the music for La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen) are in charge of the music for this live-action Snow White.

It’s not known when Disney will officially begin production on Snow White, but it’s been in the works for a while now. Almost three years ago, Variety reported that Disney would be making a live-action version of their first feature-length animated movie. At the time, Variety also reported that Disney was working on a spin-off about Snow White’s sister, titled Rose Red. No word on whether Snow White’s poor sister got shuffled off to the back burner, but it looks like right now they’re focusing on Snow White.

And good luck to them, because I have no idea how they’re going to swing this one. Ask Kristen Bell and she’ll tell you that the story of Snow White doesn’t exactly send a great message in 2019. I guess Disney’s best bet would be to try to modernize the story? But really, who wants to see the Wicked Queen discover she’s no longer the hottest of them all by seeing she’s been replaced by Snow White on her Instagram explore page.
