EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Countess's jibe at Gary Lineker over flag remarks

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: That’s salty! Countess makes crisps jibe at Gary Lineker after he dismissed flags as ‘pieces of cloth on a stick’

BBC presenter Gary Lineker’s disdain for the Union Jack has reached a crunch point with Countess Bathurst.

After Lineker described flags as ‘pieces of cloth on a stick’, the chatelaine of Cirencester Park in Gloucestershire blasted the Walkers crisps brand ambassador, saying: ‘I’ve tried really hard, but I can’t get excited about crisps. They’re just slices of fried potato, right? Does it make me a bad person? No. But apparently, Gary Lineker, they make you a very rich person. You’ve said some daft things in your time lad.’

Kim Kardashian’s royal party pleas dashed by Palace

She may be reality TV royalty, but Kim Kardashian’s dream of joining the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the UK have been dashed.

For I hear officials at Buckingham Palace have rejected her pleas to attend the Platinum Party at the Palace tomorrow.

Representatives for the star, 41 — who landed in the UK with her boyfriend, 28-year-old comic Pete Davidson, this week — asked for tickets. But Buckingham Palace turned the U.S. couple down, as did publicists at the BBC, which will broadcast the show.

Kardashian is so determined to attend that a source tells me she’s trying to acquire tickets by other means — and has even said she doesn’t mind if the tickets are ‘not VIP’.

‘Kim rarely gets turned down to attend any event, so this has been quite surprising, especially as she doesn’t visit the UK often. Kim and Pete love the Royal Family and really wanted to be a part of this special celebration.’

The likes of Queen, Diana Ross and Nile Rodgers will perform at the event, while Sir David Attenborough and David Beckham will make appearances.

Some 10,000 tickets were allocated via a public ballot, and 7,500 have been given to key workers, those in the Armed Forces, volunteers and charities.

Members of the Royal Family are expected to attend on behalf of the Queen, who is ‘pacing herself’ but will be watching on TV from Windsor Castle.

Earlier this week, Kardashian and Davidson were spotted having dinner at the River Cafe in West London and shopping in Mayfair. Kardashian’s representatives declined to comment.

Kylie Minogue was eager to drive down memory lane as she filmed scenes with her ex-boyfriend Jason Donovan for the final episode of Neighbours, which will air in August.

The pop singer, 54, who found fame on the Australian soap as Charlene Robinson, reveals: ‘I wanted to be reminded of being that 19-year-old again, when I would get into my Datsun and fang it to Vermont South or the Network Ten studios at Nunawading,’ [in Melbourne where the show is filmed].

She adds: ‘It was very sweet to be with Jason and to think, ‘Wow, we’re still around’.’

Eugenie cheers for Granny at flypast

Prince Andrew may have been banished from the balcony, but that didn’t stop his daughter, Princess Eugenie, from celebrating her grandmother’s Platinum Jubilee.

The disgraced prince’s youngest daughter, 32, waved skyward from the roof at St James’s Palace, as she enjoyed the RAF’S show-stopping flypast. She was joined by her husband Jack Brooksbank, 36, and their son August, one.

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries came to the rescue of a hedgehog who ended up on her doorstep in the middle of the night.

‘This little fella turned up looking for an ambulance to take him to the wildlife hospital,’ reveals Dorries. The former nurse knew something was wrong, adding: ‘I could hear his bubbly chest before I looked down and saw him.’

‘The hedgehog is recovering well,’ her office assures me, ‘and is being taken back to the hedgehog sanctuary in her garden. He has been named ‘PJ’ in honour of the Platinum Jubilee.’

Sherlock star Martin Freeman has advice for actors with a chip on their shoulder.

‘I don’t think any occupation should get a pass to be a p****, especially not acting. You’re not curing cancer; you’re not working in a soup kitchen. If people treat you well and you get to do the job you love — not to say that there won’t be days where you feel like telling people to f*** off, and occasionally I do — you can stay decent.’
