Selena Gomez did a spot-on impression of Miley Cyrus while hosting Saturday Night Live, and fans couldn’t get enough of it. Here’s what Gomez said about her fellow former Disney star on the long-running sketch comedy show, and how fans responded.
Selena Gomez hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ for the first time
On May 14, Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez took on the challenging and prestigious and challenging gig of hosting Saturday Night Live.
This marked Gomez’s first time hosting SNL, but it was not the first time she has appeared on the comedy show. She was the musical guest in a 2016 episode hosted by WWE and UFC champion Ronda Rousey. Gomez performed songs from her 2015 Revival album, including a medley of the tracks “Good for You” and “Same Old Love,” as well as her hit “Hands to Myself.”
With Gomez serving as the host, SNL’s musical guest was Post Malone, who performed his songs “Cooped Up” and “Love/Hate Letter to Alcohol.”
The former Disney star delighted fans with her opening monologue, in which she poked fun at her dating life and got the audience to sing the famous “I Love You” song from Barney & Friends with her. She also did a scarily accurate impression of her fellow singer and actor, Miley Cyrus, that fans can’t stop talking about.

During her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, Selena Gomez cracked jokes about pop culture entities ranging from Bratz dolls to the Netflix show Old Enough! One of her Only Murders in the Building co-stars, Steve Martin, appeared in a pre-taped skit.
But one moment from Gomez’s performance stood out to fans – when she did an impression of her good friend and fellow Disney star, Miley Cyrus.
Gomez set up the impression by saying that she had reached out to the “Midnight Sky” singer for advice about hosting the show. Cyrus has hosted and been the musical guest on SNL several times.
“I also asked one of my oldest friends, Miley Cyrus, and she said, ‘Just be yourself and have fun,’” Gomez said, dropping her voice and putting on Cryus’ signature growly twang. “And I was, like, ‘Miley, is that just an excuse for me to do an impression of you on the show?’ And she was, like, ‘Hell yeah, I’m Miley Cyrus.’”
The impression was so eerily accurate that, if audience members closed their eyes, they might just think that the “Wrecking Ball” singer was in the room.
