Fern Britton shares update on friendship with Phillip Schofield following This Morning affair scandal

TV star Fern Britton has issued an update to fans on the status of her current relationship with Phillip Schofield.

Fern, 65, spent a lot of time with Phillip, 61, as the pair co-hosted This Morning together between 2002 and 2009. The former Breakfast Time star was then replaced by Holly Willoughby, who co-starred alongside Phillip until the controversial presenter stepped down in May.

The TV personality found himself at the centre of a scandal after admitting to having an "unwise but not illegal affair" with a much younger male colleague.

Phillip was subsequently dropped by both his management and ITV but maintains that he did not 'groom' the member of staff, insisting that his sexual relationship with the TV runner had been consensual.

Now, issuing a fresh update to her fans, Fern has confirmed that she and Phillip are no longer on speaking terms. "We were involved in the show and mates at the time, but we don't really speak anymore," she told Good Housekeeping.

The star added: "My time at This Morning was marvelous, and I adored the ten years I was there. I feel you should never look back. I don't think I'd be able to turn the clock back; it wouldn't work that way."

It comes as Fern also shared a cryptic message of support to former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes, who made his strong thoughts on Phillip very clear in the wake of the scandal.

Fern tweeted: "Unexpected calls from old mates are so lovely," following a phone call with Eamonn, adding: "Just had the loveliest catch-up with @EamonnHolmes. I think we have known each other since the 80s when we were babies. Shooting the breeze."

And just hours before, Eamonn had slammed his ex-This Morning co-stars Holly and Phil, saying that they "should have won the Best Actor award at Sunday night's (May 14) BAFTA TV Awards."

In an explosive interview with the GB News show, he said: "I think there should have been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors.

"They may or may not be together on the telly today. The public surely will suss that there's no chemistry, that it's a broken fit between the two of them, and that This Morning does not depend on who presents it.

"It's an institution; it will carry on no matter who presents it, and anyone can check the viewing figures. There's no difference between whether they present it or anyone else."
