MailOnline has contacted representatives for Godfrey Gao and Zheijiang Television for comment.

A statement from the TV network said the actor and model was taken to hospital where it was confirmed he died as a result of a cardiac arrest.

It said: ‘On the evening of November 27, Godfrey Gao’s relatives, whom we had been waiting for, arrived at Ningbo. Our programme team are coordinating with Godfrey Gao’s management team to handle matters appropriately and in accordance with the family’s wishes.

‘All of us at Zhejiang Satellite TV have been in sorrow since the incident took place. We are gravely heartbroken by the tragedy.

‘After his collapse, we rushed Godfrey Gao to the hospital, but we still could not save his life. For the severely consequences this ‘accident’ has caused, we feel deeply sorry.

‘Around 1.30 am on November 27, while he was in the process of recording, he suddenly slowed down while running and then collapsed, the paramedics at the scene rushed to rescue him, after which he was sent to hospital for further treatment.

‘However, emergency treatment failed and he passed away. We will think long and hard about the reasons, investigate all the steps in the recording of the programme, and work towards implementing better security measures.

‘We would like to stress that we are there with Godfrey Gao’s family and team, and respect their wish to remain private at this time of mourning. We thank all our friends for their care and support.

‘Our love and guilt for Godfrey Gao will always be there. May he rest in peace!
