Georgia Harrison has hit back at claims she posed in blackface in recently resurfaced images.
The British reality star, 24, is currently appearing on US reality series The Challenge, but fans of the MTV series hit out at the production company for casting Georgia after images emerged of the star posing with her face painted black.
However, Georgia has since told MailOnline that the picture was taken at a children’s birthday party when she was in the process of being painted as a cowboy and in no way meant to cause any offence or harm.

A spokesperson for The Challenge finalist told MailOnline that she allowed the birthday boy to paint her face, explaining: ‘Georgia let the birthday pick what she had done and that was it.
‘The little boy asked for her face to be painted black and then asked for her to have a moustache like a cowboy.
‘At no point did Georgia think it was offensive or hold any negative connotations.
‘Georgia would like to publicly apologise for any hurt or upset she’s caused with this old photograph and will learn from the situation.’

The image – taken in 2014 – resurfaced online last week leaving The Challenge fans shocked and appalled.
Blackface is a form of theatrical make-up used predominantly by non-black performers to represent a caricature of a black person.
The performance art gained popularity during the 19th century but is now widely considered to be offensive and distasteful.
After the image resurfaced, outraged fans posted: ‘Georgia really was out here doing black face’; ‘Wow Georgia. This is disgusting and way out of line. And to think this isn’t the only time you’ve done blackface. Smh.’
‘Also it’s no one’s place to say if this is acceptable or not. It’s extremely offensive, and someone needs to take accountability’; ‘Can we all stop stretching the truth by saying so and so is a racist (when they’re not) and focus on the real issue of Georgia wearing black face MULTIPLE times. Y’all diminish the significance of the word by falsely accusing others to defend your faves

Several fans were quick to leap to her defence, however, including her Love Island co-star Theo Campbell.
He penned: ‘I wasn’t going to say anything as it’s BS to me. But think, loveisland is 10x bigger over here then the challenge is in the U.S. if anyone thought she was being racist it would have been picked up on it already. @georgiaharisonx is away filming atm so can’t tell us who she was

Ex On The Beach’s Rogan O’Connor also spoke out in her defence, as he tweeted: ‘Not always seen eye to eye with Georgia.. or Theo for that matter, but gotta agree with him on this one..
‘Georgia looks like a child in those pictures and although I know ‘black face’ is offensive, I really think her silly make up was more ignorance than racism’.
Meanwhile,The Challenge star and Big Brother US winner Josh Martinez also appeared to hint at the drama as he penned: ‘It’s so crazy to me how some people wait for one negative thing to happen so that they can jump all over it and attack some ones character.
‘Kind of sad these tv people instead of helping each other out some of them are waiting on your downfall.’

The bubbly reality star gained an American fanbase when she starred in series 33 of The Challenge last year, reaching the final and finishing in eighth place.
The Challenge sees reality stars from around the world come together to compete in a series of physical and mental challenges in the hope of the scooping prize money.
During her time on the show she was involved in a tumultuous relationship with fellow Brit and Ex On The Beach star Stephen Bear, a storyline that dominated much of the series.
