Gwyneth Paltrow reveals that ex-husband Chris Martin came up with their daughter Apple’s ‘original and cool’ first name

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t taking any credit for her daughter Apple’s name.

While hosting an Instagram Q&A on Friday, the 49-year-old actress revealed that it was her ex-husband Chris Martin who came up with the unique moniker.

‘Her dad came up with name and I fell in love with it,’ she wrote in pink lettering against a gray background.

‘I thought it was original and cool. I can’t imagine her being called anything else!’

Apple, now 17, got in on the action during her mother’s Instagram live jokingly asking, ‘Who’s your favorite child? (Only one right answer).’

The Iron Man actress refused to take sides, responding, ‘@applemartin I love you both the same, nice try.’  

Apple is one of two children Paltrow shares with the Coldplay frontman, 45. They also have a son named Moses who turned 16 earlier this month.

The pair were married from 2003 to 2016. According to The Sun, they originally separated on May 6, 2013. 

In March of last year, the Oscar winner revealed that she never really wanted to get divorced from Martin.

‘I’ve learned so much from something I wanted least in the world,’ she said on Anna Faris podcast Anna Faris is Unqualified. ‘I never wanted to get divorced. I never wanted to not be married to the father of my kids, theoretically.’

Despite not necessarily wanting to get divorced, Paltrow has moved on since splitting with Martin.

The pair live together in, what E! News reported to be, a $14.4 million Malibu home.
