Harry Potter will officially become a TV series as Warner Bros make huge announcement – but Daniel Radcliffe and his co-stars will NOT be reprising their roles

Exciting news for Harry Potter fans as HBO Max are officially moving forward with a TV series of the hit wizarding book series by J.K. Rowling. 

Warner Bros made the announcement on Wednesday that each season of the show will be based on one of the magical books in the franchise. 

However the series will feature an entirely new cast from the films which saw Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) soar to fame in.

The eight Potter films grossed more than £6 billion at the box office between 2001 and 2011.  

It comes as HBO Max and Discovery+ officially combined into a new service dubbed Max.

J.K Rowling said she is ‘looking forward’ to being part of the new Harry Potter series and going into depth and detail which the films weren’t able to do.

The multimillionaire author said: ‘Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me. 

‘I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series’. 

Discovery have described the new Harry Potter TV program as a ‘decade-long series’.  

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, said: ‘We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way’.

‘Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. 

‘In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.’

Max will produce in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television. 

J.K Rowling will executive produce the series alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman is currently in talks to executive produce.
