This Week On The Farm presenter Helen Skelton, 37, has opened up about how she was worried her book, which shares her adventures across the globe, would be seen as “too preachy.” Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the star spoke about documenting her travels and challenges around the world, as well as her involvement in Slingby’s Celebrity Golf Academy this year.

I didn’t want it to be too preachy

The Countryfile host wrote the book aimed at young girls to detail her love of outdoor adventures and inspire them to go on their own travels.

However, the TV star has since said that she was worried about her book being viewed as “preachy”.

Addressing the project, Helen said: “I kept getting asked to write an anecdote of all my travels, but I only wrote about those challenges because I wanted people to get something out of it.

“I didn’t want it [her book] to be too preachy but I kind of feel like people need a bit of a confidence boost at the minute so I kind of hope it does that.”

The Cumbria native, who has sons Ernie and Louis with rugby-player husband Richie Myler, also revealed how she plans to use her book as a way of sharing her adventures with her children.

She explained: “Now that my kids are getting a little bit of independence, I feel like i need to kind of make a record so that one day I can say to them, ‘Look, mummy used to do really cool stuff.'”

The TV presenter also hinted that she was planning to share more of her adventures.

She continued: “I think I’ll write another book at some point but maybe not just yet.”

After starting her TV career on Blue Peter, Helen became known for her love of adventuring over the world, which included completing the Namibian Ultra Marathon and kayaking the length of the Amazon river.

She said: “I did all of that stuff at a time when I feel like the world was really different.

“I went to the South Pole, it’s not as easily done now because we’re all much more aware of climate change and you have to be conscious about what you’re taking.”

Despite her book sharing the extreme adventures the mother-of-two has been on, she explained that the purpose of the project was to encourage people to take on their own challenges.

She continued: “I’m not saying to everyone with that book, ‘Go on, just go and walk to the South Pole or canoe the Amazon,’ I want people to take on relative challenges.

“It’s not about the scale of the adventures it’s about pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone.”

Helen also said that she hopes her children will, like her, adopt a sense of adventure growing up.

She explained: “I want my kids to take on challenges, I don’t expect them to be jumping out of planes, I just want them to rise to the challenge themselves.”

Later this year Helen will be competing against Natalie Pinkham, Fleur East and Bela Shah for the opportunity to compete in the BMW PGA Championships through the Slingsby Gin Golf Academy.

Slingsby Gin is a proud sponsor of the BMW PGA Championship, and has launched its celebrity Golf Academy to encourage more women to take to the course this summer and to champion the social side of the sport.
