Holly Willoughby snubbed from National Television Awards

Holly Willoughby is snubbed from National Television Awards shortlist in favour of Alison Hammond – while This Morning is nominated despite Phillip Schofield affair scandal

  • The final round of voting for the National Television Awards is open and the winners will be announced at the ceremony hosted by Joel Dommett at The O2 on September 5

Holly Willoughby has been snubbed from the TV presenter category for the upcoming National Television Awards after the furore over her co-star Phillip Schofield’s affair with a colleague.

Phillip, 61, resigned from ITV and was dropped by his talent agency YMU in May after admitting to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ relationship with a younger male colleague on This Morning.

The broadcaster duo had been longlisted for the best TV presenter prize, alongside fellow This Morning hosts Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, Rylan Clark and Martin Lewis, but only Alison and Martin made the cut.

However, This Morning has been nominated for best daytime show despite the affair scandal.

Holly, who hosted alongside Phillip from 2009 onwards, has continued to present the show with a series of co-stars, while MPs have called on ITV bosses to address claims of toxicity and bullying behind the scenes.

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Holly for comment.

The show will defend its title in the daytime category against The Chase, Loose Women and The Repair Shop.

Phillip and Holly had been longlisted for the best TV presenter prize, alongside fellow This Morning hosts Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, Rylan Clark and Martin Lewis, but only Alison and Martin made the cut.

They will compete against Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, who took the award for the 21st year in a row at last year’s ceremony, as well as The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman and The Chase’s Bradley Walsh.

Dame Deborah James and Paul O’Grady have been posthumously recognised in the nominations, with Dame Deborah named in the authored documentary category, for Bowelbabe In Her Own Words.

Dame Deborah set up the Bowelbabe cancer research fund, and died last year at the age of 40 after suffering bowel cancer.

Paul’s For The Love Of Dogs was listed in the factual entertainment category after the death of the TV presenter and comedian earlier this year.

It will compete against Clarkson’s Farm, Sort Your Life Out and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

The final round of voting for the National Television Awards is open and the winners will be announced at the ceremony hosted by Joel Dommett at The O2 on September 5.

The awards come after Phillip’s dramatic resignation from ITV in May after admitting to an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a much younger male colleague.

Phillip had been involved in the tryst for years, keeping it secret until he admitted to The Mail on Sunday that he had lied about the affair just being rumours.

He went on to confess he had misled his employer, his colleagues, his friends and his agents at the management firm YMU, who dropped him as a result.

When he broke his silence after leaving the show he insisted he had not ‘groomed’ the man, despite first meeting him when he was 15.

And he went on to declare: ‘Attraction is attraction. It’s no different in the gay world as it is in the heterosexual world or in the lesbian world.

‘There shouldn’t be a difference. This is where homophobia comes in. We did first meet when he was 15, I visited the drama school [he attended].

‘So yeah, there’s a difference. It’s accepted by Leonardo DiCaprio, it’s not accepted if it’s in the gay world.’

The former ITV personality went on to address his fears of going out in public, worrying he would receive verbal abuse or be spat on.

He said: ‘I do not know a time I will be able to walk out of the door.

‘I don’t have any spirit. My friends tell me, “It will get better”. It won’t. Not now. Not this one.

‘You watch all these layers of you slide away and slide away and slide away. The things that were dear to you. But I deserve it. It’s my fault. I deserve it.’

He said he would never use social media again following the dramatic fallout.

When Phillip stepped down from his role there were fears that This Morning could be axed all together.

And these concerns only grew when his co-presenter of 13 years Holly disappeared on holiday without saying goodbye to viewers.

But sources have since confirmed that she is far from quitting, instead being set to sign a lucrative new contract – and save the show.

They confirmed that Holly will be back as planned in September, despite employees behind-the-scenes fear she was ‘quietly quitting’.

Lucrative: But it’s understood Holly is in line for a £300,000 pay-rise, with her yearly salary – an estimated £700,000 – boosted to £1million when she returns to a rotating stable of presenters

It’s understood she’s in line for a £300,000 pay-rise, with her yearly salary – an estimated £700,000 – boosted to £1million when she returns to a rotating stable of presenters.

As exclusively revealed by MailOnline, Welsh presenter Steve Jones is also expected to join the team over the summer as ITV endeavour to move on from the abrupt departure of Phillip.

A source told The Sun On Sunday: ‘Holly is at the heart of the show’s future and success and ITV execs want her to steer a steady ship out of a rocky year. It’ll be a strong start with Alison, kicking off as a dream team.

‘Holly’s pay deal is up for negotiation in a few months so they are putting together a lucrative package that will reflect her added responsibility without Phil, and they are prepared to go up to £1million a year.’

It is believed that Holly will line-up alongside Alison Hammond for her first two shows in September, with hosts including Jones also expected to feature at a later date.
