Hollyoaks star Ruby O'Donnell's soap alter ego Peri Lomax has been going through heartbreak on screen, and now the actress is thought to be dealing with real-life relationship troubles too after rumours she has split from her boyfriend of four years.
Ruby, 22, has been dating Wigan Warriors player Sam Halsall, 21, since 2019 but it appears their romance may be over as the pair have both removed photos of each other from their social media.
Fans of Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks will know that Ruby's character Peri is suffering her own heartache at the moment as she is at the centre of a huge storyline which saw girlfriend Juliet Nightingale (played by Niamh Blackshaw) killed off.
This week, the troubled teen character lost her eight-month battle with Hodgkins lymphoma, dying at home with Peri holding her hand in an emotional episode which saw her read Juliet what should have been their wedding vows before she passed away.
Viewers were left in tears as Peri said her final goodbyes to Juliet.
Talking to MailOnline about the sad storyline, Ruby said: "Over the years, Peri has had a lot of heartbreak, but this one is definitely going to hit the hardest. Losing someone that close to you so young is devastating, but I don't think it's going to fully hit Peri for a long time that Juliet is actually gone.
"Anyone who's ever experienced grief of a loved one, knows it takes so much time to even start to accept it."
Ruby also recently shared with her social media followers that she had been bereaved in real life, too, after losing her grandma.
She shared three photos of her grandma and wrote: "Today was about celebrating the beautiful life you created. I’ll miss you forever Grandma xx" as her fans offered their condolences.
Ruby is a long-serving member of the Hollyoaks cast, having starred as Peri in the soap for 10 years since 2013.
She had shared photos with Sam on social media regularly after they began dating in 2019, including snaps of a romantic walk around a lake and a date to Christmas markets, but they have now removed photos together from their accounts.
Ruby's reps have been contacted for comment.
