Anthony Martial was reportedly shocked he wasn’t even named in the Manchester United squad for their defeat by Tottenham on Monday night.
That’s according to extraordinary reports from France, claiming the winger is less than pleased with Jose Mourinho’s decision.
Martial, who wasn’t called up to the France squad for the World Cup this summer, started Manchester United’s defeat by Brighton last week.
The former Monaco man was hauled off on the 60 minute mark, being replaced by Marouane Fellaini, before being completely overlooked for the Spurs game.
United started brightly on Monday night, despite the final score, and came closest to breaking the deadlock through Romelu Lukaku in the first half.
But Tottenham stepped up their game after the break, exploiting the huge gaps in the Red Devils’ back line to carve them open again and again.
Harry Kane and Lucas Moura got themselves on the scoresheet as Spurs recorded a 3-0 victory, and United plummeted further down the table.
Martial watched from the stands, and wasn’t even an option to come on after being left out of the matchday squad by Mourinho.
French radio station RMC Sport has reported on the decision, and claims the forward finds it ‘incomprehensible’ that he was left out.
Martial clashed with his manager throughout the summer after he cut short his pre-season training with United to return home for the birth of his son, Swan.
Mourinho wanted the Frenchman to return instantly, but he missed United’s final two friendlies, angering his boss.
Amid reports Martial was set to be fined, he broke his silence on Twitter, writing: "Thank you all for your messages. My little Swan is well, it was more difficult for the mum but thanks to God she is better now.
"I’m sorry but my family will always come first. Back in Manchester tomorrow."
