Ice-T says father-in-law's lungs are 'damaged' from COVID-19

Ice-T says his father-in-law’s lungs have been ‘damaged indefinitely’ following his COVID-19 bout after he initially refused to wear a mask

Ice-T shared a warning to viewers to take precautions against the coronavirus after revealing that his father-in-law suffered potentially permanent injuries due to it.

The 62-year-old rapper told Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday that his father-in-law Steve Austin’s lungs had been ‘damaged indefinitely’ following a frightening hospital stay with COVID-19.

A week earlier, the actor’s wife Coco Austin, 41, shared a positive update on his condition and revealed that he was able to come home.

Side effects: Ice-T, 62, revealed on Wednesday that his father-in-law’s lungs were ‘damaged indefinitely’ due to COVID-19 on a remote appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Ice-T prefaced his update on Steve by mentioning that he and his family were now in Arizona, where Coco’s family lives, and he had been disturbed when they first arrived to see how few people were wearing masks and taking the pandemic seriously

‘We came to Arizona thinking it was safer, and it spiked here,’ he said, adding, ‘And I’m coming from New York, so I’m, like, already terrified.’

Unfortunately, his father-in-law was among the people not following proper COVID-19 safety procedures.

‘I hate to say it, but Coco’s dad is a Harley-Davidson-riding, no-masking type of dude. And [COVID-19] put him on his back,’ he said.

Long lasting:’His lungs are damaged indefinitely. COVID attacks your lungs, and it can really leave your lungs ruined,’ he warned, adding that he went public to raise awareness

The rapper said Steve was able to tough it out at home for nine days, but he eventually had to go to the hospital after developing pneumonia in both lungs.

After a month under the care of doctors, he was able to return home having recovered from the illness, but the battle won’t be over.

‘His lungs are damaged indefinitely. COVID attacks your lungs, and it can really leave your lungs ruined,’ he warned.

The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star added that he opened up about Steve’s illness in hopes of sparing others the same pain and potential heartbreak.

‘I put it on social media because there’s still nonbelievers… One guy wrote me and said, “You seem scared.” I’m like, “Yeah, I’m scared of your contaminated breath, OK? Is there a problem with that?”‘ he said.

‘I’m aware and I’m concerned and I’m cautious. You want to call that scared? Call it scared.’
