Kate Garraway narrowly missed out on the I’m A Celebrity grand final after becoming the ninth person to be eliminated from the show, with the star warmly greeted by husband Derek Draper upon her departure.

During her exit interview with hosts Ant and Dec, the Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, told how she had agreed to take part in the ITV show last year, but then changed her mind as she was too ‘terrified.’ 

Her semi-final exit means that Jacqueline Jossa, Andrew Whyment and Roman Kemp will battle it out to be crowned King or Queen of the jungle on Sunday.

As Kate chatted to the Geordie duo in the studio, she revealed she couldn’t believe she had got that far. 

She said: ‘ I feel amazing! I can’t believe I got this far. I can’t believe it, honestly. 

‘I was flabbergasted. I kept on thinking you got my name wrong.’

Touching on the fact she pulled out of the series in 2018, Kate explained why she had now done a u-turn.

She told the pair that ‘it’s now or never’, explaining that her two children were now old enough to ‘cope’ without her. 

She continued: ‘Life is busy isn’t it? You’re a mum and you’re juggling lots of things from the minute you get up and you’re racing around from the minute you get up. You have a lot of balls in the air.’

The TV presenter was shown various clips of her facing her fears and conquering the trials, with Kate explaining that doing the trial has made her realise that she does have strength within.

She explained: ‘Everything I’ve got I’ve always worked really hard for.

‘You realise you have got stuff in you, you have got bravery in you and you have to really, really treasure what’s important to you. And it’s people.’

The interview also saw her talking about her trial Frightseers, with the challenge frightening her so much that she had to be comforted by Ant and Dec.

Discussing one part of the task in which she had to unscrew stars using just her tongue, Dec reassured her that she had a very strong tongue.

While Kate warned future campmates: ‘Anybody coming into the show next year, do some tongue exercises now!’

Speaking of the finalists Roman, Jacqueline and Andy, she said: ‘Those three really deserve to be in the final, they’ve been brilliant throughout.’

Her departure comes hot the heels of Nadine Coyle and Caitlyn Jenner, who were the seventh and eighth to leave the jungle.

While Nadine, 34, made a cheerful departure, Caityln, 70, broke down in tears and declared she ‘missed my family terribly’ following almost three weeks in the jungle – but in a devastating twist, not a single member of her brood came out to greet her amid her exit.

But despite speaking about her family during her interview, viewers were left devastated for the star as not a single member of her family came to greet her at the end of the bridge. 

However, it turned out that she was instead greeted by pal James Haskell, who later took her for coffee.

The challenge saw her collecting four stars from a ball pit while being watched by her co-stars, as she strove to make it up to the top with the stars intact.

All the while she was being sprayed with water cannons and pelted with giant inflatable balls as she attempted to win stars for camp.

In the end, she, Andy, Roman and Jacqueline emerged victorious and manage to bag four meals for the night.
