ITV 'spends a whopping £2.1million on signing stars for I'm A Celeb'

ITV ‘spends a whopping £2.1million on signing stars for I’m A Celebrity – one of the biggest bills in the show’s 20-year history – as they intent to make huge impact for its return to Australia’

ITV reportedly spared no expense when it came to signing stars for this years series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as the show makes its return to Australia.

Bosses are said to have spent a whopping £2.1million on the star-studded 2022 line-up, one of the biggest bills in the show’s 20-year history.

A TV insider told The Sun: ‘This is a huge amount but ITV see coughing up this kind of cash as a worthwhile investment for the right blend of characters.’

Expensive: ITV spared no expense when it came to signing stars for this years series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as the show makes its return to Australia

The insider continued: ‘Producers know that the right combination of stars will get viewers tuning in and staying with the show over the next three weeks — but that costs serious money.

‘They’re also aware of the fact that the show has been stuck in the UK for the past two years due to Covid — and they wanted to make a huge impact as it returns to Oz.’

The highest paid star this year is Pop Icon Boy George, 61, who will take home £500k.

Late arrival and former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, 44, will pocket £400k from appearing on the show.

The MP, who quit as Health Secretary after cheating on his wife during the pandemic with long-term aide Gina Coladangelo, will become the 12th celebrity heading Down Under.

After playing a central role in coordinating the government’s response to Covid, Mr Hancock’s political career has flagged of late, and last week he was snubbed by Rishi Sunak after the new PM dodged his attempt at a greeting outside Tory HQ.

He becomes the latest in a long list of political figures to try their luck on the ITV reality show, including MPs Nadine Dorries and Lembit Opik, and Boris Johnson’s father, Stanley

Cast: (L-R) Mike Tindall, Owen Warner, Olivia Attwood, Charlene White, Boy George, Scarlette Douglas, Sue Cleaver, Chris Moyles, Babatúndé Aléshé and Jill Scott have been unveiled as the I’m A Celebrity 2022 lineup

Mike Tindall is the third highest paid celebrity in the jungle this year and will leave with £265k.

Radio legend Chris Moyles will pocket £200k, while Seann Walsh will collect a pay check for £130k.

Love Island’s Olivia Attwood will receive £125k, while Sue Cleaver will walk away with £115k.

The I’m A Celebrity cast this year are the richest yet, with a combined net worth of over £76 million, according to reports.

Boy George tops the list at a predicted £43.8m while Mike, 44, married to the King’s niece Zara Phillips, follows with an eye-watering £15.7m.

Chris Moyles, 48, reportedly boasts £8m, with Olivia Attwood, 31, sitting on £1.2m. Jill Scott, 35, and Sue Cleaver, 59, are also thought to be millionaires.

A source recently insisted the cast haven’t signed up for the ITV reality show due to being short of cash.

They told The Sun : ‘People think stars only sign up to I’m a Celebrity for the money but a lot of this year’s contestants are already rolling in it. Forget the money, they want the memories.’

I’m A Celebrity will air every night of the week and both weekend nights after the launch – all at 9pm.
