Jake Gyllenhaal finally addresses cyberbullying over Taylor Swift

Jake Gyllenhaal declares ex Taylor Swift has a ‘responsibility’ to reign in her ‘unruly’ fans who went after him on social media but insists he doesn’t ‘begrudge’ her thinly-veiled All Too Well song

  • The 41-year-old Oscar nominee dated the 32-year-old pop star for three months in 2010, allegedly inspiring the 2012 song which she re-released in November
  • Jake admitted he turned off his Instagram comments from Taylor’s massive 423M social media following
  • His name was the fifth trending entertainment topic on Twitter with over 89K mentions
  • Swift never publicly confirmed it was Gyllenhaal, but she directed a music video starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien (who have a similar age difference)

Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal has blasted the cyberbullying against him that stemmed from his ex-flame Taylor Swift releasing a 10-minute version of her thinly-veiled 2012 song All Too Well on November 12.

‘I’m not unaware that there’s interest in my life,’ the 41-year-old actor told Esquire on Thursday.

‘At some point, I think it’s important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one’s name. That begs for a deeper philosophical question.

Finally speaks out! Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (L) has blasted the cyberbullying against him that stemmed from his ex-flame Taylor Swift (R) releasing a 10-minute version of her thinly-veiled 2012 song All Too Well on November 12

‘Not about any individual, per se, but a conversation that allows us to examine how we can – or should, even – take responsibility for what we put into the world, our contributions into the world. How do we provoke a conversation? We see that in politics. There’s anger and divisiveness, and it’s literally life-threatening in the extreme.’

And while his life was not threatened, Jake admitted he turned off his Instagram comments – mostly involving ‘stolen’ scarf emojis – from the 32-year-old pop star’s massive 423M social media following.

At one point, Gyllenhaal’s name was the fifth trending entertainment topic on Twitter with over 89K mentions.

Even five-time Grammy winner Dionne Warwick got in on the pile-up, offering to ‘pay the postage’ so The Guilty producer-star could finally return Taylor’s scarf.

‘It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don’t begrudge anyone that.’
