James Corden reveals he's lost '35lbs' but 'hates' working out

‘I’m trying!’: James Corden reveals he’s lost ‘just over 35lbs’ but admits he ‘absolutely hates’ working out and ‘doesn’t trust’ personal trainers

James Corden has revealed he’s lost ‘just over 35lbs’ (2.5 stone) but admitted that he ‘absolutely hates working out’.

The presenter, 42, detailed how when he gets time off work he just wants to be ‘laying down’ not breaking a sweat and going to the gym.

Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, James was surprised by the host thinking he looked slimmer and revealed he’d lost some more weight.

When asked how he’s feeling, James said: ‘I feel like I’m getting better. I’m trying, but I feel like there’s still a way to go.. I’ve lost just over 35lbs’.

Howard then asked if the Late Late Show host is working out, with James admitting that he’s not a fan of hitting the gym in his free time.

He explained: ‘I’m trying to, but I suck at it. I’m so bad at it. It’s terrible. There are so few hours in the day that are just my own, do you know what I mean?

‘I’ve got three young kids. We have the show and all these things. I feel like, “Hang on a minute. I’ve got an hour here where I’m on my own, and I’m doing something that I absolutely hate”. I should just be laying down.’

James also joked that he isn’t keen on using personal trainers, saying: ‘I don’t trust them. I don’t think they want me to lose weight quickly’.

The star continued to explained that he’d ‘burned through’ roughly 75 of them before concluding getting paid by the hour made them disinterested in rapid results.

As for updating his wardrobe now he’s slimmed down a little, James said that he’s not purchased too many new things yet.

‘I’ve not bought masses of clothes because I’m hopeful that there’s still a way to go,’ he said, detailing he’d instead begun picking from a different section of his closet.

‘For some time now, I’ve had three separate wardrobes … “You’re an Embarrassment, You’ve Gotta Do Better,” and “Yeah Baby, You’re Really Doing This.”

‘That [embarrassment section] has not been used in a while, so I’m quite enjoying dipping into some of those clothes,’ James said.

James has often spoken about his weight, revealing in the New Year that he has signed up to a health and fitness programme to help shift the conversation around wellness.

He said on WW’s (Weight Watchers) Facebook: ‘I want to change the way that I live. I want to be better for my children and for my family.

‘I don’t want to wake up tired, or feel embarrassed when I’m chasing my son on the soccer field and out of breath after three minutes.’

Back in 2017 James shed six stone in weight and found major success in Hollywood, however he has also admitted the one food that he can’t stop eating is bread.

Elsewhere in the interview with Howard on Wednesday, James discussed having Oprah Winfrey’s number and calling her impromptu during the Late Late Show.

The star explained that he saved the icon’s number a while back and forgot about it entirely before calling her up on his show.

Although the conversation went well, but James wondered if he had invaded Oprah’s privacy. He said he considered killing the bit, but then Oprah reached back out.

‘She sent a text going, ‘That was hilarious,’ he recalled.

While speaking about Corden’s current movie Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Howard imagined James’s three young children were awestruck by their dad’s work.

‘Oh, they couldn’t care less,’ he laughed. ‘My son said to me the other day, “You know who would be a brilliant Peter Rabbit?” I said, ‘Who?’ He said, ‘[‘Spider-Man’ actor] Tom Holland.’

James’ interview comes as he recreated Friends magic on The Late Late Show on Wednesday as he did his famous Carpool Karaoke with the six members of the cast.

The presenter hosted the reunion last month, 17 years on from when the last episode aired and shared more behind-the-scenes footage during his show.

Driving in a golf buggy, James joined Matt Le Blanc, 53, Jennifer Aniston, 52, Matthew Perry, 51, Lisa Kudrow, 57, Courteney Cox, 56, and David Schwimmer, 54, as they sang iconic theme tune I’ll Be There For You, before Jen revealed she still wears her character Rachel’s clothes as well as Monica’s.

The Howard Stern Show airs on SiriusXM channel Howard 100 and is broadcast live Mondays – Wednesdays starting at 7:00 am ET. The full show is also available on the SiriusXM app.
