Jeremy Clarkson nearly killed by caravan on The Grand Tour

‘I thought, I’m having the biggest accident of my life’: Jeremy Clarkson reveals he was nearly killed by a caravan during latest adventure on The Grand Tour

While navigating a narrow corner in Scotland, Jeremy Clarkson thought he may have seen his final day as the caravan he had been towing began to overtake him.

Jeremy’s near-death experience took place in the latest adventure of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, which saw the comedy trio travel to Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides.

Jeremy, 61, and his co-star James May, 58, told The Sun they thought the caravan-hating car enthusiast may die as a result of their antics which saw the tow bar connecting his caravan to the car detach itself.

James said: ‘For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge. I thought, “We are finally shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan”.’

Jeremy added: ‘There was a point, when it started to overtake me, that I thought, “God I’m having the biggest accident of my life”.

‘Then I thought, “No, wait, I’m still in control”. And then, “The caravan’s come off”, and the whole tow bar had detached.

‘That really happened. I thought James’s lungs were going to come out, he was laughing so much.’

Their words come after, on Thursday, fans were given their first glimpse of The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown which sees the show’s stars cause havoc in Scotland.

As well as Jeremy’s terrifying experience, the show will follow Jeremy, Richard Hammond, 51, and James as they attempt to cross a plastic bridge in the middle of a lake in 1970s American cars they used to see in TV programmes during their younger years.

Along the way, the trio will drive through the streets of Edinburgh, enjoy a hilarious, high-octane showdown with driver Abbie Eaton on the racetrack, and also stage an epic Cold War shootout between the worst Soviet and American cars ever made.

James, Jeremy and Richard take to the roads of Scotland in a Cadillac Coupe De Ville as driven by Elvis, a Lincoln Continental as driven by Jock Ewing of Dallas fame, and a Buick Riviera as piloted by Clint Eastwood.

The co-hosts will also use classic muscle cars to put an infamous Pizza Express journey to the test, and they head to the Outer Hebrides for one of their toughest challenges yet.

They are also tasked with building a homemade floating bridge across the Hebridean sea, capable of supporting them and their massive cars on a perilous journey to their final destination.

Jeremy previously admitted they had bumped into a number of famous faces during their travels in Scotland.
