Kanye West releases cryptic trailer for IMAX film Jesus Is King accompanied by haunting gospel choir

Kanye West has released a cryptic new trailer for his upcoming IMAX film Jesus Is King, a companion piece to his album of the same name.

The 40-year-old rapper does not appear in the sneak peek, which consists of one shot drawing closer and closer to a light at the end of a tunnel.

This tunnel is in fact a vaulted hallway inside Northern Arizona’s Roden Crater, a massive art installation by James Turrell in an extinct volcano.

Incoming: Kanye West has released a cryptic new trailer for his upcoming IMAX film Jesus Is King, a companion piece to his album of the same name

Kanye’s new movie is directed by Nick Knight, who helmed the musical artist’s Blkkk Skkkn Head and Bound 2 music videos and has worked with Lady Gaga and Bjork.

The trailer closes with a line from Jesus out of Mark 1:15: ‘The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the gospel.’

A haunting gospel choir sings: ‘Saved by his grace. It’s in his will, his will. Saved by his grace. It’s in his will, by faith revealed. It’s in his will.’

The lyrics seem to be inspired by Ephesians 2.8: ‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves – it is the gift of God.’

Jesus Is King, both the still-unreleased album and the film out October 25, will feature the gospel choir from Kanye’s famous Sunday Services.

One of the Sunday Services will reported be depicted in the movie, which is subtitled A Kanye West Experience.

The album was originally meant to drop on September 27, then was pushed back to September 29, a deadline that also sailed by unmet.

Kanye played the new music to a crowd at George Washington University over the weekend, and in footage obtained by TMZ said he is a ‘recent convert’ to his faith.

The rapper has long played with Christian themes in his work, including on his 2004 single Jesus Walks and in the title of his 2013 album Yeezus.
