The course is sometimes known as ‘pre-Cana’ after the story in the Gospels of the Marriage At Cana where Jesus turns water into wine.
Katherine shared that ‘in the Catholic Church you have to do premarital counseling before you get married and I was like: “Oh my God, what is that gonna be like?”‘
She came to feel the experience ‘was the most amazing thing and just the most amazing gift that I know not everybody does, of course, ’cause if you’re, you know, if you’re going to get married in the Catholic Church and they don’t tell you you have to do it then maybe why would you?’
However she and Chris found it to be ‘such a helpful thing to be able to have in our relationship of having that guidance, talking about things that maybe we wouldn’t necessarily have talked about before getting married.’
The big day: Chris and Katherine married in 2019 at Montecito’s San Ysidro Ranch – where her maternal granduncle John F. Kennedy honeymooned with Jacqueline Kennedy
Having to ‘talk about things that couples of 10 or 15 years still don’t like to talk about with one another and being prompted to talk about those things was also a really helpful thing to do early on that I think, you know, helps as you add children, add new experiences, new locations, new jobs, like all those things.’
During the coronavirus lockdowns last year Katherine became a mother when she welcomed her and Chris’ daughter Lyla who will turn one next month.
Lyla is Katherine’s only child but Chris also shares his eight-year-old son Jack with his first wife Anna Faris whom he split from in 2017.
Chris is reportedly a nondenominational Christian and has been part of the star-studded congregation of the Hillsong megachurch.
