He overhauled his lifestyle after he switched to a vegan diet four years ago. 

And Lewis Hamilton showcased his muscular physique in a shirtless video posted to his Instagram on Monday following a training session.

The Formula One champion, 36, candidly opened up about his body image saying he has always been ‘that skinny dude’ and there are days when he ‘hates’ his body.

He flaunted the results of his plant-based diet and exercise regime in the clip as he posed for the camera wearing only a pair of workout shorts.

In the next snap Lewis displayed his impressive leg muscles as he pulled up his shorts and tensed his quads.

The professional driver admitted that he still finds training a ‘struggle’ but reminded his followers that ‘remaining consistent is key’.

He also revealed that despite his chiseled abs, he has days where he hates his body, or feels ‘fat or too skinny’.

In his caption he wrote: ‘I’ve always been that skinny dude. Partly because of my job but mostly due to misguidance on diet, training, lack of certain workouts and bad sleep. 

‘Training is a struggle for me, it always has been. There are days when I just don’t have the motivation, days I hate my body, days where I feel fat or too skinny. 

‘My weight fluctuates a lot, up and down 2-3kg weekly depending on sleep, water and training. 

‘Remaining consistent is key but most important of all is eating right. This is also not easy as I’m sure you know but we have to keep trying. This is me after a good session this morning.’

Lewis dished out some mental health advice, saying that working out ‘releases endorphins’ and helps keep you in a positive mindset.

He continued: ‘Remember, working out releases endorphins that kick start your day positively so if you’re anything like me and struggle with mental health, training is a huge player in helping keep you on a positive. 

‘Go have an awesome week! #staypositive’

Lewis ditched eating meat in 2017 after he decided to try veganism and hasn’t looked back since, revealing that his diet transformation has healed his gut. 

His post comes after he finished second behind Max Verstappen in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy on Sunday. 

The seven-time world champion suffered a setback midway through the race as he veered off the track but recovered and to make a brilliant comeback from ninth to finish second. 

The British athlete holds the record for seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles, in a tie with Michael Schumacher.
