‘It’s been horrible for everyone’: Linda Lusardi, 62, reveals her children had to undergo therapy after her near-fatal battle with COVID-19

Linda Lusardi has revealed her children had to have therapy after she had a near fatal battle with Covid.

The former Page 3 model, 62, said she was left at ‘death’s door’ after being admitted to hospital in March last year.

The ex-Emmerdale actress was put on oxygen and faced the prospect of being intubated, with one doctor saying they were unable to guarantee her survival.

Her husband Sam Kane was also treated in hospital after contracting Covid, and developed pneumonia. Miss Lusardi, who claimed the virus was so bad that she ‘wanted to die’, told the Mail that their children Lucy, 25, and Jack, 22, had therapy to help them process the stress.

‘It’s been horrible for everybody,’ she said. ‘My kids have had therapy (due to) the trauma of nearly losing both of us. Then we lost our dog. It’s a year you want to zip up in a suitcase and throw over the hill.’

She said her husband still gets flashbacks of fears that she would not come home but said their children were ‘absolutely brilliant now’. The former model added it took her eight months to recover from the virus and she still struggles with tiredness.

Miss Lusardi was speaking ahead of the launch of her YouTube series Beauty Angels, which sees her team up with actress Debbie Arnold to discuss new treatments and dispel beauty myths.

She added: ‘I did think about therapy but I didn’t in the end. I got to talk about it a lot in interviews and I think it was actually worse for people around me because I didn’t realise how bad I was.

‘I think my husband Sam should have some because he still gets flashbacks about me not coming home and the fear and trauma he went through thinking I wouldn’t make it.

‘Both Lucy and Jack had a short patch of therapy. They’re absolutely brilliant now.’

The glamour model-turned-actress suffered hair loss as a result of the virus and took eight months to recover, but still struggles with tiredness.

She also fears that she has been left with liver damage as she is no longer able to drink alcohol.

She said: ‘Since Covid I can’t drink. I can’t drink alcohol so it makes me wonder if I have slight liver damage.

‘I just feel really ill about half an hour after I’ve drunk it… And I love my gin and tonics, my prosecco.

‘I had the occasional gin and tonic but it’s not worth feeling rough. It’s pretty instant.

‘I think “oh I’ve got a headache coming on”. It’s like a hangover. It’s lucky my party days are over. I would have been desperate in my 20s.’

The former Emmerdale actress, who has filler to plump up her brows in the first episode, also said she is embracing being in her 60s after struggling to accept she was getting older when she hit 40.

‘I’m the first one to tell you how old I am because people go “really?” and I love that so let’s hope they’re still doing that when I’m 70,’ she said.

‘I think 60 is the new 40. We still want to look good and be up with the trends and make the most of ourselves.

‘I don’t always live by it myself but I try and look at the positives of being old. I don’t get periods anymore. Brilliant. I don’t get spots anymore. Brilliant.

‘I don’t have to wash my hair every other day. I haven’t got mood swings. So there are benefits to getting old. I’m so happy to be here because of what happened last year. I was lucky to get through.’

In December, Linda declared that she was ‘glad to see 2021’ while celebrating New Year’s Eve with her family following her harrowing coronavirus battle.  

Marking the end of a difficult 12 months, Linda took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve to share a sweet family with their two children. 

She penned: ‘So happy to see the new year in with my family. Glad I’m here to see 2021 love @toffee1968 @lucy_kane @jackkane’  

Clearly delighted to be celebrating, Linda took to Instagram to explain her plans for the night, saying: ‘We’re having a little mini party, just the four of us, in our lounge and we’re looking forward to seeing the BACK of 2020.’ 

Linda was hospitalised for 10 days and required oxygen and was attached to a drip during her terrifying ordeal with coronavirus in 2020.   

The Dancing on Ice star suffered from severe chest pain, fever and vomiting and at times hoped she would not wake up.

After her ordeal, Linda revealed how she was coping with the impact of having had coronavirus and said her hair had started to fall out. 

The star also revealed her husband Sam, who was hospitalised at the same time as her with the virus, was suffering from heart palpitations.   

She told The Sun in August: ‘Sam’s had heart palpitations quite badly, and he’s under a cardiologist at the moment. They can’t see anything specifically wrong. 

‘I’ve had some hair loss which has been a bit distressing. I still haven’t got the energy I had before although I’m getting there. Every week’s a bit better.’

Linda’s children have also struggled with the family’s double scare. 

She said: ‘The mental trauma of it has touched us all even though it was me who was sick. My children had to deal with the fact they might lose both of us and then me, and the mental effect it’s had on us has been very traumatic really.’
