According to the publication, the lyrics appear to take aim at Jesy, who departed the group late last year as she admitted it was taking a toll on her mental health.

They sing: ‘How did we get here; We used to be so cool; Nothing lasts forever but I really thought wlittle we could; I know there’ll be tears but it’s worth the broken heart; If I can’t protect my energy, I gotta cut you off.’

When they revealed the title of their new track earlier this week, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall creating the song was ‘like therapy’.

Jade said: ‘Cut You Off was written a couple of months ago in a session with Lost Boy and Lauren Aquilina. It was kind of like a therapy session writing Cut You Off actually.’

While Perrie added: ‘You let it all out, it’s a safe space.’ And Jade went on: ‘I love Cut You Off because it’s just a really good, solid, manic pop song.’

Although the girls did not divulge who the song is about, fans speculated that it was aimed at Jesy.

Pulling tongues: Amid the claims Jesy shared this snap on social media

One wrote: ‘So is this about Jesy?’ While another added: ‘Imagine this was aimed at Jesy.’

It is not the first time the band have taken aim at someone in their songs, as Shout Out To My Ex was believed to be about Perrie’s former fiance Zayn Malik.

It comes after Jesy revealed that she left Little Mix after ten years of feeling ‘trapped.’

The pop star detailed how the ‘constant comparison’ that came with being part of one of Britain’s most successful girl bands took a toll on her mental health.

Speaking on the latest episode of Reign With Josh Smith, Jesy, who has now embarked on a solo career, told presenter and journalist Josh how it was the little things that left her feeling trapped.

‘When it came to little things, like if we had to do a video and everyone had to wear bikinis and I didn’t want to wear a bikini because I felt like sh*t, I couldn’t not,’ she explained.

‘It’s just the little things like that, that would make me feel trapped. And it was just the constant comparison every single day that was hard and that eventually, after 10 years, takes a massive toll on your mental health.’

The Essex native initially auditioned as a solo act on 2011’s X Factor and was brought back following her elimination to form Little Mix, alongside Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

And despite acknowledging that she had incredible moments with her former bandmates – who she branded as being ‘like sisters’ to her – Jesy was firm in the fact that she had to do what would make her happy.

Of her departure from the group last December, she insisted: ‘I really didn’t want to upset people and I didn’t want people to think that about me, but I don’t care anymore – because it was ten years of my life that I was very unhappy with and I needed to take myself out of that.’

Experiencing panic attacks was another trigger for Jesy to remove herself from the situation she’d found herself in, and it was her mum, who has remained firmly by her side, that told her she needed to start looking after herself.

‘My mum was like, ‘Why are you doing this? You live once. This isn’t you. This isn’t the Jesy that I know. You’ve become someone I don’t even recognize anymore,” the star said.

Since making the life-changing decision last year, the songstress has found her voice within her solo song writing.

Interview: Jesy spoke on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast

‘In a nutshell, I went through a breakup and it was probably the first time I’ve ever been heartbroken in my life. It was f**king horrendous, and I was laying in bed and was like, ‘Why is it that when I’ve been with really, really nice boys, that I get bored? And as soon as I get with someone that’s bad, I’m obsessed with them?’

‘And I thought, I need to write a song about this,’ she recalled.

Jesy’s newfound ability to ‘take control’ of everything, from music videos to styling, has left her feeling like a weight has been lifted from her shoulders.

‘It’s the first time I’ve ever got to really explain how I truly feel in my songs, which is really refreshing,’ she concluded.
