‘We really needed it’: Little Mix have revealed they underwent therapy as a trio in the wake of former band member Jesy Nelson’s exit in December
During the chat, Little Mix explained some the meanings of some of the newer songs on the anniversary album, which is a celebration of their 10 years together as a group.
And as she detailed the thought process behind Cut You Off, Perrie told how the song spanned from the three embarking on therapy sessions which came after a tough year amid the coronavirus pandemic and Jesy sensationally quitting the group.
She explained: ‘Cut You Off is about someone who’s really toxic in your life and you don’t want anymore. We actually went to therapy as a group, which we think is really, really helpful. We got told to envision the people that are negative in our lives and the people who don’t make us feel very good about ourselves.
Gone: Jesy sensationally quit the group at the end of last year to focus on her mental health. She has since gone on to launch a solo career
‘And we imagined big scissors to cut people off — and then Jade came up with the concept to make it into a song, which I thought was really freaking cool.’
The new mum, 28, added that the three of them ‘really needed’ their therapy, having had both individual and group sessions, adding that it was ‘amazing’ that they could all be there for one another and ‘cry together’.
Elsewhere, the Sweet Melody hitmakers detailed the biggest things they’d learned from their decade together, with Jade discussing the strong bond they have amid the ‘fickle’ music industry.

She said of the industry: ‘It’s very difficult to maneuver your way around it as women, and as a part of a girl band. But throughout that whole experience, we’ve had each other and helped each other through that. So, I’ve learned that no matter what happens now, and along the way in the future, I’m always going to have this unit to fall back on whenever I’m struggling with anything.’
Jade, 28, went on to call their unity ‘beautiful, stating that she’s ‘proud’ of the ‘bond’ the three of them have established together.
The past year have seen some major changes in the group’s lives, not only with the departure of Jesy, 30, but also the addition of three new members of their Little Mix family after Perrie welcomed a baby boy Axel, while Leigh-Anne gave birth to twins.
And it seems as though the little ones will become a big part of the band’s future music as mum-of-two Leigh-Anne, 30, gushed that she ‘can’t wait’ to get back in the studio to write about their children.
