Lorraine retweeted an article that announced Kate’s husband Derek had “spoken for the first time”.

She typed in view of her 616,000 followers: “I continue to be in awe of @kategarraway – and her courage, strength and grace during the worst of times.

“Now at last a glimmer of hope,” Lorraine added.

Underneath, fans of Kate shared their prayers and well-wishes for the GMB host.

One wrote: “She’s such a strong lady, and has so much strength and love being sent her way.  Praying for a full recovery for Derek.”

A second replied: “Oh my goodness, I was so scared to read this at first saw it but what lovely news to wake up to. Keep fighting Derek & sending lots of love to you all. Kate you are amazing xxx.”

A third commented: “Couldn’t have put it better, Lorraine. Strength and Grace – exactly this. Let’s hope this is the turning point for them.”

A fourth said: “This is the most wonderful news. Mal and I are so pleased at this progress but know how slow the recovery is and the difficult road ahead. But this certainly does give hope to Kate and her children that he will be home with them again. Lots of love.”

It comes as Kate revealed her husband had uttered his first word in 214 days in hospital – “Pain”.

Derek mouthed the word as doctors manipulated his body, which a sobbing Kate watched online.

The popular star, told The Sun: “It’s a case of trying to balance belief, hope, optimism with reality.

“But we have had a breakthrough which was both amazing yet heartbreaking.

“It happened when the nurses were moving Derek, as part of his treatment, to trigger the sensation of gravity because he’s been horizontal for so long.

“Right from the beginning, when Derek couldn’t even open his eyes, the doctors and nurses have always talked to him to be respectful, and to try to trigger a response.”

She added: “As they were shifting him, they asked if he could feel anything — not expecting a response as he hadn’t previously. But suddenly he mouthed in a whisper, ‘Pain’.

“Obviously it’s so heart-wrenching that his first word was ‘pain’, but it is a huge breakthrough because it means he has been able to connect the feeling in his body to his brain and mouth.”

Kate explained how on receiving a call from staff caring for Derek, she had “burst into to tears”.

She continued: “They called me straight after and I burst into tears. The staff told me later that they were so emotional as well.

“It breaks my heart that there may have been times that he’s been in terrible pain and wasn’t able to communicate it.

“But he’s said it twice now and I was there for the second one, watching him over FaceTime.”
