Former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin is no stranger to bike rides and fitness challenges, but her latest adventure has been especially tough, as she’s joined athlete Mimi Anderson, someone who has won Guinness World Records for her endurance. Attempting to keep up the fast pace left the broadcaster too exhausted to tuck into a delicious ice cream.
So tired I could hardly eat my ice cream!

Part way into an almost month-long itinerary biking across Argentina, Louise has been posting regular updates on her progress via Instagram.
Revealing a series of photos of herself on the road, the 53-year-old shared: “This is what I felt like yesterday after cycling 179km in Argentinian sunshine, so tired I could hardly eat my ice cream!
“I have cycled exactly 999km alongside @marvellousmimi and have just another hop to Buenos Aires left.
“I can’t wait to get there!!”

The triathlon-loving star, seen cooling herself down with water in the photos, had bravely taken on the expedition despite a biking mishap last year, in which she forgot to take her foot out of the cleat during a ride.
Despite taking a tumble and apparently suffering “wounded pride”, the presenter – who loves to engage in an active lifestyle – got back up again for an even bigger biking adventure.
Back in 2020, during the pandemic, she had urged fans to take part in The Big Bike In and join her in raising funds for Comic Relief and Children In Need.
For that cause, Louise cycled 100 miles on Zwift – but this challenge in Argentina has proven to be much more gruelling.
She has been inundated with support from some of her 127,000 Instagram followers, as she takes the trip of a lifetime.
“Keep peddling Louise…Nearly there!” encouraged @vanessa_bond_insta.
@magscheese3748 agreed, stating: “What an amazing woman you are, so inspirational, keep those pedals going.”
Meanwhile, @clivelewes seemed to have his heart set on her exercising further when the milestone journey came to an end, suggesting: “Outstanding achievement! Tango lessons when you arrive?”
Celebrity supporters commenting on the post included Chris Hoy and Lucy Alexander from Homes Under The Hammer, both of whom wished her well and praised her “adventure”.
As the virtual hugs and podcast requests continued to roll in, with the post attracting almost 4,000 likes in just a few hours, Louise continued on the next leg of her journey.
Despite the intensity of the physical endurance test, a few viewers even wished they were taking the journey alongside her, with @tracyhefferon_author musing: “Oooh that looks warmer than Peterborough right now…”
It isn’t her first time in the Argentinian sunshine, either – after spending a year touring the South American country, along with Chile, after university, she gained her first step on the career ladder working for BBC World Service there.
Now she is returning as a triathlete, having revealed on Instagram that the location is very close to her heart.
Meanwhile, companion Mimi has posted some updates on her own Instagram about the journey, during which constant talking “distracted” the pair from the intensity of the ride.
“Cycled through vineyards, saw loads of parrots and I believe an eagle!” Mimi exclaimed with excitement at one stage on their journey.
“The afternoon was incredibly hot but @louiseminchin and I looked after each other and took turns in the front drafting as the wind at times was incredibly strong – I’m hoping tomorrow we have a tail wind!”
As for Louise, she has commented that “the friendships and empanadas are getting me through 12 hour days in the saddle!”
