Love Island 2019: Viewers think they’ve guessed new catchphrases and are left ‘cringing’ as Lucie attempts to bring ‘bev’ into the villa
Every year, it seems the Love Island contestants show up to find love and teach the nation a whole new set of phrases.
But as the new contestants got to know one another and made their first impressions on tonight’s episode, viewers think they have spotted this series’ new catchphrases already.
Eagle-eyed fans have noticed the Islanders appear to have taken a liking already to ‘it is what is is’, first used by Sherif when none of the five ladies stepped forward for him.

And viewers of the show have been cringing on their sofas at Lucie Donlan’s attempt to bring new slang words into the villa, with her word ‘bev’ for hot.
Fans of the show took to Twitter as they noticed the new catchphrase, with one saying: ‘Primark making the calls to get “it what it is” on all their t-shirts right now. #loveisland’.
Another wrote: ‘2017: My type on paper, 2018: I’m loyal babes, 2019: It is what it is #loveisland’

Another quipped: ‘“It is what it is” is the new “I’m loyal babe” #LoveIsland’.
One said: ‘Every guy who gets rejected: “it is what it is innit”‘.
Meanwhile, viewers couldn’t help but notice Lucie’s attempt to force the word ‘bev’, with some quipping that the only meaning it has is an alcoholic drink.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘Lucie forcing it with the word “bev”. Bruv last time I checked bev means a drink’.

The show has become famous for using well known catchphrases, including ‘my type on paper’ and ‘eggs in basket’.
Last series saw Georgie Steel coin the catchphrase that she is ‘loyal, babe’.
Whilst it may be most-watched show of all time on ITV2, Love Island has not been without controversy.
After the series five contestants were announced, the show came under fire from a host of fans, former Islanders like Malin Andersson and reality stars Lucy Mecklenburgh for the lack of diversity on the show.
However, creative director and executive producer Richard Cowles defended claims that this year’s cast was lacking body diversity by suggesting that producers were only giving audiences what they wanted to watch.
Cowles said the show is as ‘representative as possible’ but that they have to ensure contestants fancy each other – meaning an all slim and toned line up yet again this year.
Speaking to the Radio Times he said: ‘First and foremost, it’s an entertainment show and it’s about people wanting to watch who you’ve got on screen falling in love with one another.’
Fans of the show took to Twitter as they noticed the new catchphrase, with one saying: ‘Primark making the calls to get “it what it is” on all their t-shirts right now. #loveisland’
‘Yes, we want to be as representative as possible but we also want them to be attracted to one another. Also, we’re not saying that everyone that’s in there is how you’re supposed to look.
‘We’re saying here’s a group of people that we want to watch for eight weeks, and we want to watch them fall in love.’
The series also came under scrutiny following the death of Mike Thalassitis – who was found dead near his Edmonton home aged 26 in March. Mike is the second former contestant to have committed suicide, after Sophie Gradon, who took part in the 2016 series of the show, was found dead at her parents’ home in June 2018 aged 32 -the inquest into her death found she had hanged herself.
Host Caroline recently spoke out about the show’s aftercare process, saying it has become ‘greater’ after the death of Mike.
She said: ‘I think as the show gets bigger, it has to evolve. So, yes, the duty of care has become greater. But this is a wider issue. We should all be looking out for each other more.
‘I don’t think you can just turn around and cast blame. It’s dangerous to do that, especially when other people are involved.
A source revealed to The Sun: ‘They’ve put in measures to ensure all contestants have enough mental health checks and have a psychologist on call 24 hours a day.
‘They’re taking their duty of care very seriously which is why they’ve written the support for families into the contract for the first time.
‘Love Island is a fun show. They want to keep it positive.’
MailOnline contacted a representative for Love Island, who said: ‘We have always ensured that the families of Islanders have the contact details of key members of our production team and there is always an open line of communication. We have always offered support to families where appropriate and when requested.’
