Love Island contestant Connor Durman’s ex-girlfriend has revealed she was approached to go on the show last year, but that he convinced her that she would ‘never get on it’.

Connor, 25, was slammed last week by viewers for being ‘controlling’ after he flew off the handle when his on-screen ‘partner’ Sophie Piper, 21, expressed excitement at the idea of new men entering the villa.

And now his former flame, Stevie-Leigh Pich, 22, has told of how he allegedly dissuaded her from accepting the offer to appear on the ITV2 show in 2019.

‘Controlling’: Love Island contestant Connor Durman’s ex-girlfriend has revealed she was approached to go on the show last year, but that he convinced her that she would ‘never get on it’

She told The Sun: ‘I was approached for Love Island last year, he told me I’d never get on it so I never expected him to apply for it!’

She also added that he’s on it ‘for the money’ rather than to find love, and slammed him for ‘coming across as a f**kboy’.

Stevie-Leigh also revealed that she learnt Connor had seemingly cheated on her, via his pre-show interview.

He said, ahead of entering the villa, when asked his idea of an ideal date: ‘I’ve actually already had the best date. When I was in Sydney, I met this girl on Instagram and messaged her because we had mutual friends. I booked this cinema in the park with a double bed, bottle of champagne and we watched A Star Is Born. Best first date ever!’

Oh, hi! Stevie-Leigh also revealed that she learnt Connor had seemingly cheated on her, via his pre-show interview

In response to this, Stevie-Leigh said: ‘He told me he was going to see A Star Is Born with two male friends – I had no reason to suspect him. To find out like that it was another girl is awful. He seems to be saying all sorts.’

A source close to Connor said: ‘Stevie-Leigh and Connor’s relationship was very on and off so it’s not fair to say he ever cheated on her.’

The blonde – who boasts 22k Instagram followers and appears eager to live the lifestyle of a Love Island contestant herself – previously took to social media to insist she didn’t want ‘anything to do with stories about Love Island’… before going to The Sun with her story.

In an emotional Instagram story posted on Sunday, Stevie said: ‘I’m sorry but I’m going through a very hard time and having to get over someone I spoke to last week – nobody can understand how I feel.’

Opinion: Iain Stirling thinks contestant Connor’s reaction to partner Sophie getting excited over new boys was an example of ‘toxic masculinity’

‘I found out in the most awful way’: She confessed to ‘hurting more than anyone could imagine’ while watching her ex date in the Love Island villa

All this comes after Love Island voice-over Iain Stirling branded Conner an example of ‘toxic masculinity’.

He told Capital Breakfast host Roman Kemp last week that Connor was talking to Sophie ‘through gritted veneers’ when she became excited about the new arrivals, and said that it isn’t a nice trait to have.

When quizzed on Connor’s behaviour, which caught the attention of viewers who compared him to You villain Joe Goldberg, Iain said he ‘gets upset very quickly’.

Swooping in: Connagh Howard, 27, stole Sophie during the recoupling that took place on Friday

Fury! The recoupling left Connor even more raging. Hunky model Connaugh has riled the veneer-wearer up with his decision

Iain said: ‘He was talking to Sophie last night through gritted veneers. I think there’s a little bit of sort-of toxic masculinity going on there a bit, man, it’s not a nice trait…

‘And it’s a trait that a lot of men demonstrate and it’s a thing that a lot of men need to work on.’

Connor had branded Sophie ‘disrespectful’ during last Wednesday’s episode, seething with her and calling her actions ‘muggy’.

Fuming: Connor also told Sophie to ‘f*** off’ when she ended up getting asked on a date by one of the hunky new men on the show

Torn apart: Connor coupled up with Sophie on Sunday’s debut episode but they were split apart by new boy Connagh Howard, 27, when the recoupling took place on Friday, leaving Connor even more raging

However fans took to Twitter to claim Connor was being ‘controlling’ and exhibited ‘control freak psycho vibes’ after the pair’s spat.

He also told her to ‘f*** off’ when she ended up getting asked on a date by one of the hunky new men on the show.

When ranting on Instagram last weekend, Stevie-Leigh also said of her ex: ‘I love Connor even after all this – and to watch him be with another girl makes me SICK.

Emotional: Stevie, who dated Connor for over three years and is still living in Australia on his visa, poured her heart out in an Instagram post

‘It’s not even hit me that it’s real, I wish it wasn’t but it is and I feel like I need to share this.

‘I found out in the most awful way, my friend woke me up crying saying I’m so sorry and do you know what? I’m f**king sorry.

‘I never wanted Connor to look bad because he’s not but I can’t get my head around him seeing me. I spoke to him last week, why couldn’t he just tell me and say I can’t change his mind?’
