Paige Turley, 22, and Finley Tapp, 20, have been crowned the winners Love Island series six – the first winter edition of the ITV2 reality show.

The couple beat runners-up Luke Trotman, 22, and Siânnise Fudge, 25, to the £50,000 cash prize – which they chose to split – also knocking Demi Jones, 21, and Luke Mabbott, 24, and Jess Gale, 20, and Ched Uzor, 23, out of the running, who came third and fourth respectively.

The footballer hinted marriage could even be on the cards with the Scottish singer – who is the ex-girlfriend of BRIT Award-winning musician Lewis Capaldi, 23 – before making a cheeky joke about the pair being able to have sex now they’ve left the villa.

This followed emotional scenes aplenty – including a tribute to the late presenter Caroline Flack, who took her own life last Saturday at her home in north London at the age of 40.

Victory: Paige, 22, and Finn, 20, looked delighted to be announced the winning duo

Paige and Finn looked delighted to be announced the winning duo – despite fans and bookies gunning for Luke T and Siânnise to take home the win.

Gobsmacked Finn declared, ‘How the f**k have I blagged that?’, after host Laura Whitmore announced them as the series champions.

They then each selected an envelope – with Paige taking the one with the £50k prize in it. She chose to split it with Finn, who declared that it was going towards a flat in Manchester for them both, having already discussed moving in together.

Before it was announced, Laura interviewed the final two couples, with Paige revealing she worried Finn was dumping her when he was in fact asking her to be his girlfriend.

Missing out: The couple beat runners-up Luke Trotman and Siânnise Fudge [L] to the £50,000 cash prize, also knocking Demi Jones and Luke Mabbott [C] and Jess Gale and Ched Uzor [R] out of the running, who came third and fourth respectively

Tribute: This followed emotional scenes aplenty – including a tribute from host Laura Whitmore [L] to the late presenter Caroline Flack [R], who took her own life last Saturday at home in London

Fan favourites: The winning duo came as a shock to some, as fans and bookies had been gunning for Luke T and Siânnise to take home the win

‘At first I thought he was dumping me. Then he asked me to be his girlfriend. It was lovely,’ she said, before adding: ‘I want us to get a dog.’

When Laura asked if she should be buying a hat – for a wedding – Finn nodded and said yes.

The hunk missed the point of Laura’s remark, suddenly backtracking and saying ‘oh, no!’ as Paige boasted she now had a husband.

Laura also paid reference to the boys’ cheeky Breakfast Club code for intimate acts, to which Finn replied: ‘I’m getting that full English when I’m back home.’

Earlier in the episode, the pair had been seen at the Love Island Prom, with Finn declaring his love for Paige for the first time.

Chic: Laura continued a theme she began last week by wearing a heart emblem on her ensemble – a tasteful red trouser suit

Moment of truth: There was a tense build-up to the announcement that Paige and Finn had won the series

Gracious losers: On learning they had failed to scoop the top prize, Siânnise said – ‘We have found each other and so I feel like I have won every day’

Reciting a speech to the Scottish blonde, the hunky contestant said through tears: ‘You said we should say it when it feels right… Well, Paigey, I love you!’

Many felt that Finn’s speech was the decider, swinging the public vote in his and Paige’s favour.

‘Finn’s crying during the speech swayed the public. That is the only explanation in my mind,’ typed one fan, as another penned: ‘I think finn’s speech made everyone vote for them as a couple last minute!’

That oughta do it! Many felt that Finn’s speech was the decider, swinging the public vote in his and Paige’s favour

Coupled up: Voiceover comedian Iain and Laura have been dating for the last couple of years

‘Finn’s speech secured them the win for sure,’ agreed another, followed by: ‘Think Finn’s tearful speech swung it, Siannise and Luke T should have won, but it’s an ok result.’

Prior to discovering they had come in second place, Siânnise said of Luke T’s entrance to the villa: ‘I just saw him coming down the stairs and I thought he is a bit of me. He makes me feel so safe and so secure.’

On learning they had failed to scoop the top prize, she said: ‘We have found each other and so I feel like I have won every day.’

Viewers took to Twitter in droves to express their outrage at Siânnise and Luke T missing out on the top prize.

‘The fact that Luke T and Siânnise didn’t win just confirms that this has really been one of the worst seasons, y’all had ONE job,’ wrote one.

Keep or split? They then each selected an envelope – with Paige taking the one with the £50k prize in it

Money talks: She chose to split it with Finn, who declared that it was going towards a flat in Manchester for them both, having already discussed moving in together

‘Not having that!!! Siannise and Luke were robbed,’ ranted a second, followed by another, who said: ‘I’m telling my kids Siannise and Luke were the 2020 winners idc.’

Paying tribute to Bristolian Siânnise, another fan wrote: ‘Siannise, house of fudge, CEO of Disney, queen of sass, thank you for being the sole source of entertainment over these last 6 weeks, don’t know what we would’ve done without you Queen.’

Coral bookmakers had Siânnise and Luke T tipped as the overwhelming favourites to take the top prize during the final with odds of 1-4.

Trailing behind: Luke M and Demi [L] came third in the emotional Love Island finale on Sunday. Jess and Ched [R] placed fourth

In memoriam: Laura tweeted ahead of the show – ‘The final of Love Island tonight at 9pm. Big up to @IainDoesJokes for a brilliant series and helping me every step of the way. Tonight’s show is dedicated to Caroline ❤️’

Finley and Paige were the second favourites at 11-4, with Luke M and Demi 14-1 to win and Ched and Jess 40-1.

In the hours leading up to the final, Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: ‘The final of Love Island’s first ever winter series is here and we think there’s one couple who are streets ahead of the others in the race to victory.’

Siânnise’s journey on Love Island saw her go from being one of the show’s least popular contestants – when she rebuffed Nas Majeed’s romantic overtures – to becoming one of the most adored.

LOVE ISLAND WINTER 2020: THE WINNERS AND THE RUNNERS-UP

WINNERS: Paige Turley, 22, and Finley Tapp, 20

RUNNERS UP: Siânnise Fudge, 25, and Luke Trotman, 22

THIRD PLACE: Luke Mabbott, 24, and Demi Jones, 21

FOURTH PLACE: Jess Gale, 20, and Ched Uzor, 23

WINNERS: Paige Turley, 22, and Finley Tapp, 20

Paige’s start on the show was far from smooth as she was left single when land owner Ollie Williams, 23, departed the show prematurely in a bid to rekindle his relationship with his ex Laura Nofer.

The 22-year-old singer’s luck soon changed for the better as she was asked on a date with Finn when he came in as a late arrival with Connagh Howard.

Sparks soon flew between the pair, with the couple’s romance remaining relatively solid during their stint.

However, earlier in the series, their relationship was rocked when Paige was accused of ‘double standards’ as she snapped at her partner for laughing on his date with Demi, 21.

Love Island received 390 Ofcom complaints after the News Splash Challenge, which sees the group given partial tabloid headlines about each other before guessing who they are referring to, caused heartbreak for the pair.

Many accused the show of intentionally baiting the Islanders after one headline suggested Finley had been tempted to stray during a short stay in Casa Amor, prompting inevitable outrage from villa girlfriend Paige.

Despite the drama, musician Paige was over the moon when Finn became the first hopeful to ask her to be his girlfriend.

RUNNERS UP: Siânnise Fudge, 25, and Luke Trotman, 22

The rocky beginning of Siannise’s journey saw her couple up with Nas Majeed, who she failed to strike up a romantic connection with.

Keen to find a partner, the beauty advisor, 25, set her sights on late arrival, model Connagh, but was left heartbroken after he revealed he was more interested in Sophie Piper and Rebecca Gormley.

Siannise found herself battling for Luke T’s affections as soon as he entered the villa,  but was met with friction from beauty queen Rebecca, 21, who also liked the sportsman, 22.

Sharing his feelings for Siannise, Luke T admitted he’d dump Rebecca for the beauty consultant.

The pair became the villa’s second official couple last week when the footballer sent her on a fairy tale-themed quest before popping the question.

The brunette wiped back tears as she told her man she would ‘100 per cent’ be his girlfriend, after he said he wanted to prove his commitment on the outside.

THIRD PLACE: Luke Mabbott, 24, and Demi Jones, 21

Luke M and Demi’s relationship came as a surprise to many, after their failed romances with Natalia Zoppa and Nas Majeed respectively.

Viewers turned on sports science graduate Nas, 22, as he left Demi, 21, ‘genuinely gutted’ by recoupling with Casa Amor’s Eva Zapico.

While Luke M’s relationship with Natalia seemed promising after calling it quits from Jess, but the Justin Bieber-lookalike was left disappointed when the Manchester beauty admitted she failed to see a future with him.

As Luke M, 24, and Demi’s relationship blossomed, Shaughna Phillips shocked the villa as she developed feelings for the hunk.  However, the Redcar native’s feelings for the style advisor as he decided to couple up with her instead of democratic service officer Shaughna, 25.

FOURTH PLACE: Jess Gale, 20, and Ched Uzor, 23

The VIP hostess, 20, quickly set her sights on Mike Boateng, who had embarked on a relationship with Leanne Amaning.

After he was left single from being dumped by customer service advisor Leanne, 22, the ex-police officer didn’t waste time in attempting to reignite a romance with Jess, who was coupled up with Luke M.

While their rekindled romance seemed promising, Casa Amor saw Mike pursue Priscilla Anyabu, while the blonde flirted up a storm with Ched.

Jess and Mike marked the end of their on-off fling when he returned to the villa with model Priscilla, 25, with the student fully focusing her attention on scaffolder Ched, 23.

Ahead of the final, the pair decided to label themselves ‘exclusive’.

Jess admitted she needs her sister’s approval of their relationship before she can be his girlfriend – but her twin Eve came into the villa during the friends and family episode and seemed more than happy with her sister’s choice.

Following a bumpy start, where Siânnise struggled to secure herself a love interest, she went on to have fans rooting for her as her relationship with Luke T went from strength to strength, even while he was coupled with Rebecca Gormley.

Once the pair finally got together, they were seen sharing their mutual interest in Disney films and pining for one another amid the temptations of Casa Amor week.

As the season came to a close, they made things official when Luke asked Siânnise to be his girlfriend. They also expressed their love for one another.

Before the show started, host Laura – who took over from Caroline this series when the late TV presenter was charged with assault – tweeted: ‘The final of Love Island tonight at 9pm. Big up to @IainDoesJokes for a brilliant series and helping me every step of the way. Tonight’s show is dedicated to Caroline ❤️’

Outraged fans: Viewers took to Twitter in droves to express their outrage at Siânnise and Luke T missing out on the top prize

Express yourself: Within moments of the winners being crowed, fans took to Twitter in droves to express their outrage at the decision

Laura opened the finale with an emotional tribute to former-host Caroline, continuing a theme she began last week by wearing a heart emblem on her ensemble – a tasteful red trouser suit.

Holding back tears, she said: ‘The past week has been extremely difficult coming to terms with the loss of our friend and colleague, Caroline. We are thinking of her family and everybody who knew her at this time. Caroline loved Love Island. She loved love, and that’s why tonight’s final is dedicated to her.’

Viewers were then shown a video montage of Caroline’s best bits on the ITV2 dating show, including her infamous slow motion walking as she entered the villa.

Favourites: It appeared that Siânnise and Luke T were not only the bookies’ favourites to win, but also the viewers’ choice

Bosses of the show confirmed they were to pay tribute to Caroline in the final – who died, age 40, at her home in London eight days ago – whilst also revealing the remaining eight finalists were told about the tragic news off camera.

A representative for the show said: ‘There will be a dedication to Caroline in tonight’s final episode. The Islanders have been informed about Caroline off camera ahead of the final.’

A day before her passing, the TV star had been told that the CPS was pursuing the court case against her following an arrest at her home over a row with boyfriend Lewis Burton in December.

Blossoming romance: Siânnise and Luke T left the show as official boyfriend and girlfriend, and even expressed their love for one another

Odds-on favourites: Coral bookmakers had Siânnise and Luke T tipped as the overwhelming favourites to take the top prize during the final with odds of 1-4

Her management company have criticised the CPS for pressing ahead with what it called her ‘show trial’ even after Lewis said he did not support it.

She had pleaded not guilty to assault by beating at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court in North London on December 23 and was due to go on trial at March 4.

The ITV veteran fronted the much-loved show since its revival series in 2015, before handing over her role to pal Laura in late 2019.

Sunday’s episode wrapped the first even winter series of the show, with former beautician Amber Gill and rugby player Greg O’Shea the last couple to win the summer series six months ago.

In love: Finn burst into tears earlier in the episode as he told Paige that he is in love with her. He said to Paige through tears – ‘You said we should say it when it feels right… Well, Paigey, I love you’

The Geordie beauty, 22, and the Irish hunk, 24, became the fastest ever show winners to part ways after he dumped her by text in early September.

Laura also confirmed that Love Island will return to screens in the summer, following speculation over the future of the show in light of Caroline’s death.

It had previously been reported that bosses of the ITV2 show were locked in crisis talks in the days following the TV star’s shocking February 15 suicide, as they discussed whether to continue with the series or axe it altogether.

But Laura confirmed to viewers that the team was in the hunt for new recruits as she said: ‘Love Island will be back in Majorca this Summer – head to the website for audition details.’

Erstwhile host Caroline was found dead at her east London home hours before February 15th’s episode was set to air, prompting bosses to cancel airing the show both on that day and on the 16th.

Returning: Laura confirmed that Love Island will return to screens in the summer, following speculation over the future of the show in light of Caroline’s death

Executives were subsequently said to be working to hammer out a definitive plan on how to handle the ratings juggernaut going forward.

Financial Times’ Mark Di Stefano took to Twitter last Sunday to report that bosses at ITV were locked in meetings to discuss how best to respond to the TV personality’s tragic death.

He wrote: ‘ITV execs and programme makers are meeting now to discuss how to respond to Caroline Flack’s death. Told to expect more information this afternoon on tonight’s episode of Love Island and the long-term.’

Following Caroline’s death, a Love Island source last week told MailOnline it was ‘business as usual’ in the villa, with contestants completely unaware the former host took her own life.

A spokesman for the show said last Saturday: ‘Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.’

Another death: Caroline is the third person involved with the hit series to kill themselves. Sophie Gradon [L] was found dead at the age of 32 in 2018, while the body of Mike Thalassitis, 26, [R] was discovered near his home in 2019

The 40-year-old is the third person involved with the hit series to kill themselves.

Sophie Gradon was found dead at the age of 32 in 2018, while the body of Mike Thalassitis, 26, was discovered near his home in 2019.

On Sunday, the hashtag #cancelloveisland was trending on Twitter, with several calling for the programme to be taken off air as The Jeremy Kyle Show was following the death of a guest.

Another show Flack recorded for Channel 4, The Surjury, has been cancelled as a mark of respect.

The new series, which was set to see participants go under the knife if they were given the thumbs-up by a 12-strong jury, was set to air later in 2020.

Soldiering on: Following a two-day hiatus, bosses continued airing the season’s remaining episodes

Tragic: Caroline, pictured in 2018, tragically took her own life at her east London home while the friend who was staying with her ‘popped out’ to the shops

A spokesperson for Channel 4 told Metro: ‘We are shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news about Caroline Flack. Our deepest sympathies go out to Caroline’s family and friends. Under the circumstances, we have decided not to broadcast The Surjury.’

ITV and Love Island producers have already come under scrutiny for prompting that decision, with many questioning what support they gave her. Reality shows have been warned by Ofcom that they have a duty of care towards their stars.

Speaking on Sky News’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps echoed the TV regulator, saying ‘the duty of care should be considered’ over Caroline’s death.

But he warned: ‘Clearly people making these programmes do have a duty of care, not just to contestants but to presenters as well. But I don’t want to jump to conclusions. We know there were circumstances involved here.’

Struggles: Friends of the 40-year-old TV personality claim she was struggling with her mental health and using anti-depressants before her death

The former presenter has been described by friends as feeling ‘on her own’ and that she ‘couldn’t see a way out’. They claim she was struggling with her mental health and using anti-depressants before her death.

Among Caroline’s final Twitter likes was a post advertising suicide prevention services at Christmas, which read: ‘Hard time of year for a lot of folks.

‘Suicide Hotline 116 123 (Samaritans) A simple copy and paste might save someone’s life. If you are struggling, please please talk to someone. XXX’
