Love Island lost 1.2million viewers on Wednesday night when the public switched over to ITV to watch the England match instead.

The ITV2 dating show’s start time was pushed back to 10pm, but after the Euros clash against Denmark at Wembley went to extra time, viewing figures dwindled.

On Tuesday night’s Love Island episode, 2.2million reality TV fans tuned in to watch the latest drama unfold as two new blonde bombshells entered the villa.

Oh dear: Love Island lost 1.2million viewers on Wednesday night as the public switched over to watch the England match instead (pictured new bombshells Lucinda and Millie enter the villa)

However that figure fell to just 941,000 on Wednesday night while England kept the nation on tender hooks until the end of extra time that finished at 10.35pm. This figure does not include views on the ITV Hub.

Love Island delayed Wednesday’s episode by an hour to accommodate the football.

In a failed attempt to avoid a ratings drop, the ITV2 channel decided to postpone their viewing until the eagerly-awaited match had finished, but hadn’t taken into account extra time.

Football: The ITV2 dating show’s start time was pushed back to 10pm, but after the Euros clash against Denmark at Wembley went to extra time, viewing figures still dwindled

While the dating show would usually air at 9pm in its regular slot, it began at 10pm.

The delay was confirmed at the end of Tuesday’s episode.

Even though there were less viewers the drama still came thick and fast on Wednesday’s show.

Despite Love Island fans being upset with Sharon on Tuesday night after her tiff with Hugo, they were on her side again on Wednesday when Aaron appeared to ‘manipulate and gaslight’ her.

Aaron had been irritated by Sharon when Hugo had said he didn’t like ‘fakeness’ in women; and as he was chosen to make dinner for the two new girls Millie and Lucinda on Wednesday’s show, Aaron decided Sharon wasn’t the one for him.

He was seen flirting with the newbies before taking Sharon for a chat and telling her she’s ‘too fiery’ for him and that he’s ‘not feeling it’, leaving her upset.

Fans took to Twitter to slam the events worker, convinced his attitude will cost him a place on the show.

Referring to the fact that England beat Denmark in the EUROS on the same evening, one penned: ‘Things that are coming home: Football, My student loan repayment plan, Aaron from the #loveisland villa!’

Showdown: England collided against the Danish football club for the eagerly-awaited match at Wembley (pictured Harry Kane right and Raheem Sterling left)

Another agreed: ‘Football is coming home. Let’s bring Aaron home too!’

Another penned: ‘When a man uses ‘red flags’ as an excuse to dump someone when they just don’t like someone’s personality or opinions = manipulative/gaslighting, Aaron. Just be careful!’

Another penned: ‘I kinda get what Aaron is saying buy his delivery is give me controlling and manipulative vibes!’

‘It’s really uncomfortable to watch Aaron make Sharon out to be a villain. Its so dark and manipulative,’ someone else agreed.

On the rocks: In the episode, newly coupled-up Aaron Francis, 24, (pictured) and Sharon Gaffka, 25, got off to a rocky start after Aaron admitted to the boys on Wednesday that he’s not feeling it with her anymore

‘This slimy nice, calm guy act from Aaron is knocking me sick. He claims to like ‘chilled women’ when in reality what he means is that he likes women who aren’t strong minded so he can manipulate them, otherwise he gaslights them!’ someone else tweeted.

‘Aaron basically wants a woman who doesn’t speak. Get a blow up doll then, mate!’ another slammed.

Referring to the Hugo drama from the night before, someone penned: ‘Hugo gets attacked for not wanting someone that’s fake… but Aaron can talk about his clearly misogynistic preferences in broad daylight???? Something’s not adding up!’

Elsewhere on the show, Brad found himself smitten with bombshell Lucinda.

Head on: Aaron confronts his pairing Sharon Gaffka, 25 (pictured) about his feelings in a private conversation at the fire pit

After Lucinda picked labourer Brad as one of her three dates, it seemed the 26-year-old hunk couldn’t be happier.

Brad admitted to Lucinda that he isn’t really interested in his current partner Rachel, and said the newcomer is his ‘type’, even though he chatted up Rachel in order to keep his place in the villa earlier this week.

He said: ‘I’ve only known the lass for two days, you’re more my type. For the first time, I’ve literally been like, ‘Jesus Christ, I’d be buzzing to get into bed with her.’ I’ve never had that. I think you’re absolutely stunning. You honestly are.’

Brad was at risk of being dumped from the island earlier this week, but was saved when bombshell Rachel chose to couple up with him over Chuggs. And at the time, Rachel thought she and Brad had a lot in common.

Tearful: Doubtful: His doubts were triggered on Tuesday night’s episode when he didn’t like the way Sharon spoke to Hugo Hammond, 24 (pictured), following their plastic surgery disagreement

She said when she chose him: ‘This has not been easy in the slightest. I think you’re both amazing guys in every single way.

‘I can’t fault either of you for absolutely anything. I would like to couple up with this boy because I feel that we have a very similar take on life. We can talk about anything.

‘He’s made me feel comfortable, he’s made me feel sexy. He’s made me feel f****** great. I’m excited to see where things go.’

Decisions, decisions: Elsewhere on the show, Brad found himself smitten with bombshell Lucinda (pictured)

But Rachel could be set to lose her man, because Lucinda has already admitted to also setting her sights on Brad.

She said before entering the villa: ‘I really fancy Brad. And then possibly Liam. But obviously I’m open to getting to know any of the other boys.’

Love Island continues on Thursday at 9PM on ITV2 and on the ITV Hub.
