Love Island star Olivia Bowen has revealed she had to make a mad dash to hospital after suffering a painful injury in an accident.

The 29 year old fan-favourite, who is married to fellow islander Alex Bowen, said she was absolutely "gutted" as she was due to be taking part in a horse race.

Mum-of-one Olivia, who starred on the ITV2 reality dating show in 2016 and now shares son Abel with Alex, unfortunately broke her wrist.

Posting a snap of her hand bundled up in a cast and net cover, Olivia shared her upset with fans.

"A broken wrist. Gutted doesn't cover it," the star wrote alongside a sad face emoji and a broken heart emoji.

She also shared her journey to the hospital only hours earlier as she raced to the minor injuries unit straight off the plane from her sun-soaked holiday in Marbella.

"Back from holiday straight to minor injuries for an X Ray on my wrist," Olivia told her followers, as she took a photo of her sat cross-legged in the waiting room.

The star had been due to compete in a horse race with her beloved pony Dolly, whom she had been training for weeks in the run-up to it.

Unfortunately, it seems that Olivia had been suffering with the pain in her wrist for a while, even before her holiday, as she was also pictured wearing a black wrist guard during her friend's hen do in Marbella.

The reality star is yet to reveal exactly how she got the injury.

It had already been a rocky journey for Olivia and Dolly, as the former admitted she'd been struggling in the run-up, so she was crushed with disappointment when her injury took her out of it altogether.

During training last month, Olivia opened up in an emotional series of stories on her Instagram.

"I cried to a couple members of the team & to my trainer on the phone. What am I doing? Am I mad for this?" she expressed.

"I just felt like I couldn’t do it, the anxiety that morning was crippling, especially for someone who suffers with such confidence issues."

Finding her courage once more, Olivia finished with a burst of positivity.

"I got back on, big girl knickers ON & remembering why I’m doing this!" she shared excitedly at the time. "Look we’re trying to prove that anything is possible as a woman if you give her the tools.

"So I’m picking the tools back up & I am doing this, no matter how scared I am or how hard it gets. I know I’ll miss it all when it’s over!"
